Definitely up there, maybe just outside the top bracket - very similiar position to Hischier at this point last season. Heard that they a e reminded of last years #1 pick when watching Zadina

I haven't heard that.

Cool. I know they couldn't drop below a certain spot last year but wasn't sure about this year. I'll assume I made it up because a google search on my end didn't return anything and I'm sure you would have known about it if it were the case.

So we have 4 studs and another quality Moosehead that we should be looking at if Housley isn't able to turn this ###### show around. We'll see how it goes.

I'm hoping we are mid pack in lottery standings if we miss the playoffs. It's said to be a deep draft, and unless we get Dahlin, if we are enough of a tire fire to finish bottom 5 again, the pick won't matter. It'll be systematic of how unfit our current core is.

isn't it the draft picks that will replace the rotten core?

I was actually excited for the season opener this year, cheered when Kane opened the scoring. Its sad that I'm already looking forward to next season. Hopefully, we will see another 6-8 guys replaced by players whom are younger, faster, more skilled and hungrier.

on that note, Svechnikov with another 2G 2A night.  He now leads the OHL with 14 points

We should be well past the place where we are still looking towards the draft to fill in our core. To supplement the current core, sure. But if we finish right around the bottom, it means our supposed core guys like ROR, Okposo, Reinhart, whoever aren't getting it done.

Then we are looking at a lot more replacements and a lot more TIME. The most valuable resource on Earth.

I'd be much happier scouting out guys in the 10-15 range that we hope can supplement our progressing core in a few years, than drafting at 1-5 and hoping that guy can fix what's left after another miserable season.

Rasmussen Dahlin with his 2nd goal in as many games

https://mobile.twitt...198340322963456

What's interesting here is he picks the top left corner, not just shooting it into the goalies crest as we've seen so far this year with the Sabres

I feel pretty confident that Dahlin, Svechnikov and Tkachuk will be in NHL next season.

So basically, the lottery winners get rookie nhlers next season, likely the rest get prospects?

Yes the top 3 should jump. The rest? Still to early to tell. The 2018 Draft is loaded though.

So if the Sabres finish near bottom do they go offense or D? Say Tkacuck or one of the top D... How many picks in top 3 rounds do Sabres have? Being lazy, Any trades make a D more likey, and find skilled scorers later on?
Depressing I am even posting this :(

You go for Dahlin all the time if you get to pick first.    this kid bumps Ristolainen to 2nd pairing.

You'll hate this answer but it's BPA.

Though if you have a forward and Dmen ranked equally - I'd go D

To have a chance at Tkachuk, I think you are going to have to get lucky with the lottery balls.

no, i think its Dahlin followed by Svechnikov at this time.

I've Seen Tkachuk as low as 7th on some lists but usually he is 3rd.

Farabee and wahlstrom highlites from this past weekend. Both could go in top 10

Wahlstrom completes natural hat trick in the 3rd period and (today) is named USHL player of the week

If Sabres want to corner the market on all players named Rasmus - Rasmus Sandin (potential 2nd rounder) transfers to OHL from SHL

Probably. You'd want to protect him a little, but this guy will dominate. Think Karlsson in Ottawa as the closest comparison.

Actually all scouting reports say he is less Karlson and more Hedman or Lidstrom in style.
Either way all say he will be a star.

I meant more in the way he can control/dominate a hockey game, not exactly skating/playing style.

and don't forget kids, he plays, left wing. Sorry lol

I almost want Rasmus Dahlin so we can bring in Rasmus Asplund and then call Risto, Dahlin, and Asplund the Rasmi

Found this at USA Today. https://www.usatoday...yers/694491001/

We actually need Tkachuk. We need the physical PF who can skate, especially if we let Kane walk.

Top 20 draft eligible playing in Europe

https://www.draftine...er-top-20.html/

the name to keep an eye on is Kotkaniemi. Ranked 14th by hockey prospect.com, otherwise usually ranked in the 20's or not at all (ISS).

I won't go tank mode again as I like the "core" of the current roster but I'm almost to the point of being indifferent to wins and loses. That's a pretty sad statement for a team that has played 8 games

The teams depth outside of the core was terrible last season and yes it was over-hauled, but it looks like on Scandella is going to be around long term.

Sabres really need youth to be pushing th current roster for jobs and that just isn't happening right now.

On a tangent here but I'm starting to think the Kane decision is going to have to come soon. If you don't think you can sign him, you really have to try trade him. You can't lose him for nothing, especially when you gave up so much to acquire him
