I will watch curling and hockey at the Winter Olympics all day long.  Most of the individual sports, I don't care about at all.  Speed skating and ski jumping are probably it.

The winter games need to find their own version of beach volleyball.  $$$$$

Random question that just came to mind:

If a player signs with his NHL team but is then returned to major junior, would he be eligible for the Olympics?  For the sake of example, let's plug in Nolan Patrick's name, someone who clearly would be on team Canada's radar if he was an option.

USA GM rules out taking draft eligible players to the Olympics

Johannson tells The Associated Press he doesn’t view anyone from the 18-and-younger pool of prospects capable of cracking the projected lineup of non-NHL players, many of whom are opening this season playing in Europe.

USA Hockey’s assistant executive director says he’s also targeting a number of established college players, and would not rule out keeping a spot or two open for members of the U.S. team competing at the World Junior Championships this winter.

I despise the font and lack of laces. Better than those weird shiny applique laces from last year.

But I'm going to unpopular opine here.. I like the arm stuff. Screw it. It's kind of a 90s garishness that sorta resembles wings.

Would I prefer a really nice classic looking sweater that hearkens back to the early days of playing? Oh, absolutely. But if we're going to reinvent the wheel here, I guess I don't mind this one too much. Still doesn't have the gravitas of an official jersey- feels like a novelty "Worn for warmup and auctioned off for charity" deal.

The US sweaters look like a jersey found on a rack at a motorcycle shop that motocross racers wear.

I swear I had that jersey with matching pants. It said FOX or MSR on the front and not USA.

At least the IOC wasn't bought off by Russia. The side affect is, of course, that someone on that chair is 100% being assassinated now

Yeah but it got this one right.

There appears to be a catch to this ruling.

It seems that the IOC will allow Russian athletes (at least some) to compete, but not as 'Russians'.  So, what happens when one of them wins gold?

That person gets a gold medal.  It doesn't count towards any sort of Russian meddle total and the Russian anthem is not played.

Yes it's on purpose.

It's be cool if the athletes got to pick their own medal song if they're neutral. I'd pick the first minute or so of Musogsky's Baba Yaga if I were Russian. I might pick it anyway, because it's awesome.

I want Derek Roy to crush it in this tournament. That will keep my Derek Roy snipes fresh and valid for another decade while we wait for a sabre to score 80 points again.

I have a decent disposable income as it is and I have to reign it in. I don't even know what I'd do if I had Roy's money and status

Nothing wrong with a little booger sugar if you can afford it.
