My premise is based on how most Sabres Fan disliked Phil due to his finesse style. They wanted Schoney or some defenseman that would rip your face off.

Maybe so, but it's a different game now

I mean, how are we going to objectively do this?

Consider yourself no longer welcome in the Bunker.

Games missed?

Over/Under 72 games played. 25 points?

So, we get the most touted young GM candidate and the most-touted emerging coach.
Because Buffalo?

Let's see how things work out.  I'm not putting that phrase away yet.  Didn't someone say he's played the most games in NHL history to not win a Stanley Cup?  That's a because Buffalo

P.K. Subban, a former Norris Trophy winner who just finished his first season with the Predators, raved about Housley to NHL.com last month.

"He brings such a different element to coaching because of the player he was; he sees the game unlike probably anyone else who's ever played the game," Subban said. "When he talks, all that matters to me is what is coming out of his mouth."

Ryan Ellis, who's been with Nashville for the entirety of Housley's tenure, spoke highly of his communication abilities.

"Phil has been awesome,"he told Yahoo! Sports."Since 'Day One' he came in here, I think for a lot of the D he was a similar player as the way he thought the game and I guess thought the game should be played. Just the little things talking with him day-in-day-out the knowledge that he brings … Obviously his numbers, his games played, his points all that stuff speak for themselves so it's easy to listen to a guy like that and take what he has to say and understand it and learn from it."

I mean, how are we going to objectively do this?

Consider yourself no longer welcome in the Bunker.

How about if he plays over 60 games and puts up his best ever PPG against seasons where he's played over 50 games, then I pick your avatar and you have to keep it until the Sabres pick a D man in the draft? Vice versa for if I lose.

Edit: if he doesn't play 60 games or gets traded then the whole bet is nullified.

I think 60 is too low. He's not a very feasible option if he's missing over 20 games a year.

But what does it prove if he plays 61 games? That's just his usual mark that we complain about. The over under has to be set properly.

He's actually averaged 65 games played per season, taking out the lockout shortened season, and his rookie year. The over under shouldn't be set at a number below his career average, when how much time he misses is something we all continually lament.

Well, you could come up with some kinda Corsi or Fenwick or other #fancystat benchmarks.

Or you could leave it to the mods (who will probably find a material Bogo improvement).

I don't think we're as concerned about time missed as we are about how he plays when he's in the game. If he misses 15-20 but plays his best hockey ever, that's still plenty of hockey. I think he just has to hit 60 to be worth the roster spot (if his production improves).

So if you are literally anyone on the Sabres Roster, you have to respect Housley right? I mean he's a hall of famer.

Fair enough.

I shouldn't speak for him, I just think one of True's major contentions is that he misses too many games.

I was only commenting cause I'm looking to get in on the action as well

Would have preferred Tocchet I think. Housley is a gamble, first time HC. But he seems better than some of the other candidates that had been floated (probably meaninglessly, seeing as how Tocchet was apparently the guy and never even got an interview).

"Did someone say gambling?" - Rick Tocchet, probably

Just thinking there didn't seem to be a lot of respect for Bylsma and I wonder how Housley starts his tenure in Buffalo.  I mean I love Jack's attitude but I am curious to see how Housley will respond or even Eichel.

I'm not sure.

Didn't we start with the additional letters in order to disambiguate people from one another? I seem to recall some issue with TB being confusing -- Ted Black or ... who was it? Not sure.

And then GMTM was just natural.

Seems like, with Housley, it can just be PH. Nah?

Yup, it'll be interesting to see what he can do with:

McCabe - Ristolainen
Antipin - Bogosian
Gorges - Falk

I can't imagine that will be the starting 6 D.  I could see Guhle and/or Nelson in the lineup; young faster offensive D.

Prolly why he didn't get an interview. When there is a casino within walking distance of what would be his place of employment, it doesn't seem like a good fit.

No axe to grind. If you lived through his playing career here, it was a pretty big let down. If they made the playoffs they lost right away. I always wished he played offense and that we did have a tougher defense. But playing careers and coaching are two different thing. #betterthanbylsma

Is the Housley hire JBOT's first official move of him addressing the dumpster fire that has been our defense? I'm not counting Anitpin b/c that seemed to fall into his lap.
