Start today in Toronto and Montreal

The Sabres have three prospects playing,  Alex Nylander and Rasmus Asplund for Sweden and Casey Fitzgerald for the US

Philly has a NHL high of nine prospects playing.

Sweden kicks things off with a 1 PM game today.

And the US Game is on at 3:30 on NHL Network

Should be exciting. Sweden's roster looks very good. I hope Rasmus Dahlin gets some ice time. He's going to be better than Liljegren IMO.

decided to stop by to complain about how ###### the NHL network is. people wonder why some consider hockey a niche sport in the US, well there's an example. we have huge international tournaments like the WJC going on and we can't even watch all of the games here. sweden is probably the favorite to win it all and three of their four group play games won't be shown live here. meanwhile the NHL network twitter account is promoting some garbage "Top shelf - wjc edition" show that's on INSTEAD of the game people actually want to watch... and they use a pic of team sweden as the teaser. lol

And from what I'm reading, Dahlin is going to get that ice time.

Nylander's second goal. Gets crushed on the boards, then gets up and directs a shot into the net.

Wow, we just gave up a goal to Latvia. Way to suck!

Kidding! I'm fully aware that that was the first time Latvia crossed the red line all period.

I'm surprised that the US's goalie was even facing the right direction. Not lime he's been doing anything.

I gotta say, I hate playing in Games like that, I would rather play in a game where I will face 50 shots then one where I would face 10. Standing around waiting for shots I find makes me play worse cause I'm not staying active.

Canada games on now, coyotes Strome is looking good, as long as they do t screw things up, the coyotes are gonna be a pretty good team soon....

Is this the WJC that is being hosted by Buffalo and has an outdoor game in early January? Or am I getting my years mixed up?

TrueBlue is correct that it is the 2018 WJC, but it's worth mentioning that it is in fact one year from now - it begins Dec. 26, 2017.

Edit: And, the outdoor game at New Era Field is actually on Friday, December 29, 2017.

Craig Button was on GR and was asked about the lack of superstars in this years WJC. He said the player to watch was Nylander.

And he prefaced it with even though he is on a Buffalo Station, he feels this way

I recorded and watched the last two Swedish games. Came away very impressed with nylander. It was not just the high end skating, soft hand and great shot that had me impressed. It was his hockey iq that had me giddy. He had a few passes that reminded me of Reinhart/Eichel. I think this guy could be the perfect running mate for jack if they can add a defensively responsible bull on the other side like okposo.

As for asplund he didn't overly impress. Great at the face off circle and very good defensively but very questionable if he has the offence to play in any future top 6. Reminds me of Larson. Good responsible centre which is probably the best you should hope for for a second round player anyways.

BOOM!
USA! USA! USA!

The refs tried hard to get Canada back into by calling a 5 min major, and then a minor with just under 2 mins left in the first penalty. Of course Canada scores to make it 2-1, but just a few mins later USA buries one to go back up by 2.

This USA team would beat the Sabres right now. They give 110% for 60 mins.
