Is Sabrespace not-for-profit? I'm just curious

I didn't know there was a difference between not/non.

Is it only not?

Between this and the apostrophe fiasco, you're zeroing in on stereotypical science geek status.

I'm guessing that, like most message forums, it exists due to the efforts of a small number of dedicated fanatics who either scrape up the money for server space and forum software themselves, donations, sponsorships and/or ad revenues (are there ads here?  I can't tell with AdBlock).  It's not so much where it's for-profit or not; it's more of a labor of love.

SDS owns SabreSpace.  It is a business entity.

Yeah I guess I'm curious if he just does it for fun or fur business. He posts a lot on both sites, so I believe it's a fun hobby with adds to cover maintenance costs.

Though this side of the hallway is far closer to being a hobby than the other side. Easily 10x the traffic at TBD vs SS.

I'd guess he makes a decent chunk of change.  Enough for NFL.com to ask him for comments on the Bills.

I think that was because he emailed them first though

I'm pretty sure it's because he's the secret Red Chairman of the Buffalo Sports Illuminati.

Definitely NOT on the MFI list.

I would bet that is all he makes,… if it even covers all the costs.

Not challenging chz (I would never), but I think SS does OK in it's own right.

If you just go to the web site and not log in as a member you will see lots of ads everywhere, which leads me to believe that there is enough traffic on the site that advertisers are more than willing to pay for their ads.

At any time there are up to around 200 non-member users on the site.

I've been associated with Sabres sites that had over 10k unique visitors a day. This was during the good times in 99, 01, 06 and especially 07 IIRC. Still, the money coming in was just a dribble. You need huge clicks to make anything more than walking-around, pay the server company money. And the person running these sites wasn't interested in making a fortune, and neither is SDS, I'm sure. It was a labor of love.

Still, I've always wondered why local advertising couldn't be sold for sites like this, with more generous rates. Why wouldn't the Anchor Bar pay $100 a month for all the eyeballs they'd get?

I'd pin the average users on this site more at 100 honestly.
