Hodgson and Ott both -3 for the night - just as bad as Leino.

@BillHoppeNHL
Ted Nolan was asked if Jamie McBain had a rough night. "You think?" he replied. "He had a rough one." #Sabres

A few observations, which may already have been made by others:

1. McBain is not ready for prime time. At all. He's a freaking mess out there. His failure to clear the puck (and it was right there for you, Mac!) AND his failure to play the man at the post both led to the first goal. Two screwups on the same play.

2. Why, in the name of all good and holy, would Nolan pair the aforementioned McBain with the currently-struggling Weber? That's not going to help either of them!

3. The population of Leino-useless-ville has gone up by one.

4. Fleury is one jittery little guy, isn't he? Pucks were missing the net by three feet, and he was reacting. Too bad the Sabs couldn't collect those off of the boards and capitalize.

Well, that was a disappointing tilt. Time for a shower beer.

Huh... The disappointment shower beer. As a strong proponent of shower beers I'm a little disappointed in myself for not having tried it yet.

...not for long.

What a boring game. And I thought Ville Leino played a really good game, as he always does.

Caught some of the 3rd and I think 2 Power plays in that time.... Just plain awful, we were too fancy for being down 2 goals with 10 to go in the game..... Tank on my friends

For some inexplicable reason, Hodgson and Ott were both saddled with Leino on their line. Any line Leino is on... it's like they're playing with 4 1/2 men on the ice.

And Leino had an astonishing 19.10 of ice time..... WTH?????? Basically, when he's on the ice - the Sabres' chances of scoring a goal plummet. So to have him on there for nearly 20 minutes - it's almost like the Sabres are spotting the opposing team a full 20 minutes. Get that lazy slimy slug OFF the ice, for pity's sake!!!

Yeah even on a team lacking forwards as bad as we do going from the press box to the 1st line is pretty unique.

Ask anyone that watches the games with me - whenever I see "# 23" appear on the ice - I act like William Shatner in the Twilight Zone episode "A Nightmare at 20,000 Ft" - yelling "He's out thereeeee!!!!!!!!!!" That bum is like my personal hockey gremlin or something. :wallbash:

Erhoff I believe is absolutely pissed at Tyler Myers for holding the Pittsburgh blue line trying to keep the puck in which resulted in a two on one on him with an empty net. I watched a few times and you can see him as he bangs his stick on the net and makes a motion to Tyler. Then bangs his stick again at the bench.
I am not a big Hoff fan. In fact I could see him somewhere else but if my point is right, he had every reason to get pissed off. Why pinch when you have an empty net and leave the sole d man goin back facing a two on one? Kind of boneheaded actually.
:wallbash:

I noticed how pissed he was too and thought it must be more than just the loss. Myers has looked very good lately, and I like that Hoff is still holding him accountable for job #1.

There's always the ferry from St. John, NB to Digby. Calmer waters and not nearly as long of a crossing.

Jsix, you expound way too much energy into slamming Ville Leino. Nobody likes watching him play, I get it, but he's in your head, man.

I'll say it: I only got to watch the 3rd period, and, based on that limited sample size, I came away with this thought (on balance): "Hey, they are playing hard ... but, man, do they stink."

As for Leino, the guy just needs to be put out to pasture. Even so: Dollars to donuts says that he'll sign on with another NHL team following his buy-out, where he'll be put into a better/more appropriate situation, and he'll have success. Not the sort of success that gave rise to his contract here, but I predict he'll return to being a competent NHL player.

I'd fantasy bet on this outcome. Put him on a line where he's expected to be the 3rd best player, and he might have enough room to work.

Much better actually, since he's putting in the effort on ice since Ted Nolan took the reins. I probably won't cry when he departs, but I'm not clamoring for his figurative head on a platter either any more.
