Hopefully he'll be good for about 12 goals or so.

Nice, he's important to the team.  I love his play and as long as he's healthy we should see him chip in wit his speed.

I think he's more valuable than Girgensons at this point, but perhaps I have a slight bias.

How's Larssons arm? Broken wrist and dislocated elbow, right? I'm not sure. Will he recover fully? to be 100%?

Looked pretty bad when he did it.

Wrists heal pretty quickly and stronger with plate and screws. Elbow can take a little time to deal with breaking up scar tissue and aching residule pain, but it can be managed.

Nowadays rehab should take care of most of that. Strength not an issue if done right.

Decent signing.
3rd liner, some speed and some upside defensively. Maybe with a new line mate or 2 he chips in 15 to 20. Who knows.

Once he's on the 4th line (line 3 center steps up), then we'll be able to do some damage in the playoffs.

Seems to be a fair deal. Depending on what Girgensons ends up w/ & whether Reinhart earns any bonuses would put his contract at ~8-9th F on the team. Roughly the right spot for the 3rd/4th C.

Glad to see him back. Hopefully no more freak injuries.

I broke my elbow; they actually didn't cast it; they put it in a sling.  The doctor wanted me to be able to move it a little so I didn't lose range of motion.

Can someone tell me why a mediocre F who has a career highs of 17 pts and 10 goals, zero leverage and would be a 4th line center on a decent team just got a 100% raise.

I'll admit, I'm not a Johan fan. He isn't fast, he isn't a gifted pker, he isn't physical, he isn't a gifted passer or goal scorer and he is only decent in the faceoff circle. He is a 4th line center and can be easily replaced. I'm praying Sam gets a shot at the 3rd line center job so that I only have to watch Johan 10 minutes a game.

He'll still score more than zemgus or moulson in a full season, crippled or not.

If all the people that think that Samson is an underestimated player could look at Johan the same way :)

I'm not all the way to this post, but the underlying question is fair.  I certainly found it interesting that he got a raise and a 2-year deal even though he is coming of a substantial injury.  Presumably JBott feels like he's seen enough of him to decide and that he likes what he sees.

Here is the difference, Larsson is 25 in a couple of weeks and has a career high of 17 pts.  He is what he is going to be at this point.

Samson is 21 and has back to back seasons of 42 and 47 pts.  He has a career high 23 g and 30a and is still improving.  Who know how good he'll be by the time he's Larsson's age.

I'm sorry, but if this club is going to make the playoffs we need a better center on the 3rd line.

Same here, expect same for dislocation.

scoring fair point.... but the rest is plain wrong... thought he was a really good pker, forechecker, physically he gets under other teams skin, and he has good speed imo, better then Girgs imo.

His skating is his major negative but he can be extremely valuable third line regular season center.
I swear, people seem to have no concept of how teams are put together during salary cap era. Marcus Krueger was the Blackhawks third center, Jarrett Stoll and Trevor Lewis gor LA. Nick Bonino contributed much more offensively for Pittsburgh but was a possession nightmare.
Additionally, the same people that want prospects to be properly developed in the minors want to define a prospects career by the time he turns 25. While the elite guys peak early, several "role" players come into their own later. Bonino, some people's ideal third center had less goals then Larsson at similar stages of their career.

I agree with all of this except the skating -- I think Larsson is pretty average and Zemgus is substantially faster.

Good post, although I'd much prefer Reino as the #3 center and Larsson as #4.

I also share the belief that Larsson's skating is not a strength of his. It's not terrible, but he's not fast relative to NHL average.

Ya. Larsson and this deal is meh to me. He's a take him or leave him player to me at this point. Don't see the problem with aiming higher than him for a 3C.

But I look forward to seeing if he grows into that role this coming season.
