This is the pick we got for Mike Weber...

http://www.elitepros...p?player=372926

Listed as 6'1" on eliteprospects. RHD played on Ilvesu20 last year dropping 9pts in 27games which is pretty solid. Could be on the U20 team again or be bumped up to the pros.

Agreed, I don't like this pick. There were better defenders left on the board to take... like David Farrance who just went to Nashville.

Nope I dislike this pick, a 5'9" guy without a ton of offense on defense... just doesn't work.

maybe that is true and the kid isn't terrible but Farrance was there and this kid was at best a reach.

#Sabres pick Oskari Laaksonen 89th overall. Played for #Ilves U18/U20. Gifted puck mover with great vision, good long-term upside #NHLDraft

I graduated high school @ 5'9" 120 lbs.  I graduated college @ 5'9" 194 lbs.  Things can change.

That being said, I wouldn't draft a Dman that size either.

Kris Baker saying 6'1" and 165.

So where did the other size come from, his 13 year old bio

He has a picture of Erik Karlsson as his Twitter background, FWIW.

Wish there were highlights somewhere.

Not BPA. I heard there was another center rated .0000003 higher according to metrics. We're doomed! Doomed I say! We'll never make up that difference in talent.

He's 6' according to his teams website in Finland and that seems accurate. He could be slightly taller now. No he was not at the combine as far as I am aware. Someone might be able to verify that.

Aren't you on the Possler boat? If so, shouldn't you be much less pessimistic about the size of a draftee? Possler fell because he was small, then he grew and became a solid prospect

WGR550.com has an interview with amateur scout Jeff Crisp where he says they'd been following him for two years and even brought him in to Buffalo for a visit.  Also said they thought other teams were aware of him even if he wasn't ranked.

I love this pick just for all the mystery.

MYSTERY! DANGER! INTRIGUE!!!!!!

Well after a few hours of being meh, I really don't care that they took him. They know more than me and clearly know something I do not.

NHLN must have been confused as well since neither he nor Bryson got a graphic or,a mention on the broadcast. Both picks were skipped over as if they didn't happen.

He's 6' or 6'1". His Finnish team has him listed as 6' according to twitter. Apparently the scouts really advocated for this kid and Botterill decided to trust them.

also, look at those flowing locks!

He had 10 points in 10 games as a defenseman in U18 this year, moved up to U20, where he had 9 points in 27 games.  As a 17 year old.

There could be something here.

Google translated Ilves page says 184cm (6' 0.5") and 68.9kg (151lbs).

I distinctly noticed that.  I also noticed they never did any quick recaps of players taken in commercial breaks.  I also noticed they put a pretty sad B squad on NHLN for this, in stark contrast to a strong squad last night on NBCSN.
