@NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "There are whispers that it's going to be $14 million for Connor McDavid." #Oilers

Dreger's response (paraphrased): That could be what's he's asking for, doesn't mean he'll get it

If McDavid makes anything close to that number, what would you expect Eichel to be asking, or rather, do you think Eichel will make more than 10 million per year?

Jack has no hardware, he's getting closer to Barkov/Gaudreau etc.

Gaudreau and Tarasenko remain the most relevant comparables to me.

I bet Strome comes close to equaling Eberle's scoring last season, for less than half the cap hit.

I might take that bet.

The cap savings aren't anythjng to sneeze at, but if they give the $4M they saved to Russell...

What's a reasonable point total for "close"? Eberle had 51, so would close be 40? 45? 50?

A heart-stopping move!

how many teams are currently paying him? Isn't he still getting paid by a team to be on LTIR while working in front office jobs?

Arizona is parting ways with head coach Dave Tippett.

Parting ways because the owner doesn't get along with Tippett according to Bob McKenzie

Whoa, there's a surprise.
Not that Tippett has had much success, but he seems pretty well-respected.

Here is the one of the tweets:

It was @adater who earlier this week first reported that owner Andrew Barroway was looking to make a change vis a vis Tippett.

Even prior to that, there had been reports of discord within ARI hierarchy, specifically between Barroway and Tippett...

re: the offsides challenge, they're floating the idea of that if you lose a challenge you get assessed a minor penalty. I'm a big fan of this rule as it'll eliminate coaches throwing the flag to review a skate a hairline off the ice. It'll still work to catch plays that are 5 feet offside but will deter the "dice-roll" challenges.

There's zero-chance the NHL is going to remove the challenge. I like the proposal that I heard, it'd also stop coaches from throwing a challenge for a "free-timeout" with the potential of calling back a goal.

Would rather have them keep it but the ref has exactly 1 minute to review it (maybe 30 or 45 seconds). If it isn't obvious by then, the call stands.

It should go to Toronto. Why have the refs look at a 8" tablet to overturn their original call? A team in Toronto should be looking at every goal and should know whether or not it's offsides by the time the coaches decide to challenge it.

On the plus side for the Caps, "Skin Irritation" is written into the 5th year of his deal.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who hears a player with a large cap hit relative to actual salary will never play again and immediately thinks: "trade to Srizona imminent?" I have a hard time believing that they're not in on Hosea. He's the veritable perfect Arizona Coyote.

Sadly, or maybe awesomely ;), my wife made essentially that exact same joke when she heard about that deal.
