That's what they said about the Reinhart draft, and I'd have his children if he asked me to.

I'm not interested in any players at the top of this one. At least, not like Jack/Connor/Auston. I mean, Bob McKenzie called Patrick something like a prototypical 2nd line NHL center. Ha. exactly what we need

I'm also not interested in giving up on this season. It's going to get better.

It's the 2017 NHL draft. Thread title will bother me since I know I'll be posting here often...

And no, I'm not giving up on the season. I do think this is a thread worth having every single year from the beginning of the year to the end. We still have draft picks, so it's worth getting to know the prospects.

Reinhart, Bennet, Ekblad and Draisaitl. I would like another of any of those.

Also, no chance we ever win a lottery, ever. In the current format, no matter what place we finish, we will never draft higher than 4th.

People, there is a draft in 2017 no matter how we do. We will be making a selection regardless of whether it is high lottery or not.

I know it was started partially as a joke about the team but this thread is good. You can learn about prospects.

Very few teams trace their first. There is literally no reason to think, at this point, that the team won't have a first.

And if they don't have a first they'll have a second. And/or third. And so on.

My point being I believe our first next year gets traded sooner or later this season in a Fowler type deal.

Weak draft this year :(

I don't agree - sure there isn't a sure fire superstar but there are a lot of high end prospects. Assuming Jack is out for 20 - 25 games I'd think the Sabres will end up picking in around 7th or 8th.

It's really early to pin-point the exact player but I really like Owen Tippett from Mississauga. I've seen him ranked anywhere from 5 th to 25th but he's really stood out the few times I've seen him play. In 12 games he has 12 goals and is a speedster. - I've read comparisons to Phil Kessel but I believe Owen is much bigger being listed at 6'2. 204lbs

There are always going to be good players available in the draft. The novelty wears off though, personally, when it becomes apparent that we aren't going to get good by finishing near last again and adding a nice prospect. Adding a prospect that'll help in a few years is always good, but we need help now.

Anyways, it's nice to have a thread like this to learn more about who's coming, even if the excitement of this sorta thing seems to have faded away at this point.

Depressing times being a Sabres fan now of days.  Of the last 4 years we've full on tanked two of them and not been very good the other two.  A key injury to Jack and it's looking like a long year again.  2005-2007 seems like such a distant memory.

You have a much better chance of having a team stripped of their first round pick, thereby making the first pick of the 2nd round 30th. That's going to be the only way the Sabres ever pick 30th.

man you guys are sensitive. Even when the Sabres are actually good and drafting in the 20's there will still be reason for a draft thread.

Sabres could easily pick 30th in 2017, people.

Like, when they trade Moulson to a Cup-contender this season and that team does in fact go all the way.

See, I took expansion into consideration. But I didn't take into consideration the possibility of picking 30th after expansion. That would just be awful.
