mustache and LTS -- very cool stuff there.

Did anyone else suspect all along that PAFan had a bug fetish?

I did.

Seriously .... GREAT stuff, here. Irwin, I may have known and forgotten ... Thank you for your service ...

Josie ... We've walked the same paths, if years apart .... Fine arts colleges to vacation cottages and bays! Important to add - I was a spectator, only, at the fine arts college!

Edit to add: and Sainte Chappelle!

I love the idea of this thread. I took up photography about 5 years ago. As someone mentioned upthread,  DSL cameras allow me to take take several pictures of the same thing, but use different settings to get a different feel. I get immediate feedback on what works -- and doesn't. I was never good at film photography. I had no patience for it.

I enjoy looking at others work. It gives me a ideas on seeing something from a different angle or perspective.

Yes, and educational. I learned something about SFiNS' homeland from those photos and feel am glad to have done so.

I love the idea of this thread.

Me too, and the execution by those posting photos. Very nice contribution by JJ.

Thanks, but just to be clear.

I am not Bosnian, nor is it my heritage.  My heritage is a mixture of Austrian and Slovak, but I most closely identify with my Slavic roots.

My wife and I have spent a great deal of time in Bosnia during and since the war in the early / mid '90s.  So, you might say that it is our adoptive homeland in a way.

The chain shot is super cool.

Here's one I've always liked of my mom. After my dad died we'd go to the cemetery, but she didn't want to even look at the headstone. I caught this reflection where she seems to be embracing the gravesite while looking away. The clouds inside her head... weird.

First - thanks for the kind words on the photo.

Second - this thread will make the entire off-season tolerable.  There is a lot of great stuff in here!

Third - I was never too crazy about shooting in RAW if only because of the size of the files. But that lightroom conversion sold me.  I might be going that route (and cheap memory cards now).

Love this thread.

The coast of Croatia is very beautiful, but the area around Zagreb is very ordinary.

The old city of Dubrovnik is great and the suburbs are quite nice and not at all like the suburbs as we understand them to be.

Happy and safe travels.

I've always wanted to do some semi-serious photography, but I've never been willing to commit the money to it. Here's a couple of random photos that turned out better than they should have.

uU2QtU5.jpg

Random picture I took with my phone, in 2008. Over looking the Genesee Valley from an apartment complex near Geneseo. If you remember what cameras were like on 2008 phones you'll see why I was happy about it.

8KhiGZC.jpg

Same year, but I think on a digital camera of some variety. Blue Mountain lake in the ADK. That's my wife pre- being my wife behind the reeds.

NQuip4S.jpg

The same picture everyone who's ever visited Letchworth has taken. I do like this one, though.

View from one of the grain elevators in Silo City. Super low res, so don't look to close :/

I'm pretty sure most of these have come up at some point on Sabrespace, but here are the pictures we've taken through the telescopes while observing with our Astronomy Club. They aren't very good because it takes a long time to get the angles and lighting just right when using a cell phone, but I like them at least. The last one was Mercury's transit, taken today, split-second between clouds, when we should have been studying.

It won't let me post the last three pictures, so I need to wait for someone else to post something before I can add them haha

Mercury is that smudge. It was impossible to get a better picture with what we are working with and the cloud cover in Olean today.

That's a cool shot of Saturn! Why use the cell phone over a traditional camera? I know it's easier, but has it come that far?

We just didn't have any cameras handy. There's a way to hook the telescopes up to a laptop, though, and you can get good pictures from that, but we haven't tried it, probably will in the fall.

My family's beloved rust bucket Fred, a 1929 Model A Ford I hope to inherit and restore.

And this is Lavender, being all goofy a couple years ago. When she came to our rescue, she was severely underweight, scared, abused, and generally on death's doorstep. She had been an Amish driving horse before we bought her from the killpen. She was adopted out not long after these photos. Sadly, those owners fell upon misfortune and Lavender is back with us at the barn.

And the motion on the horse is impressive.

The funny thing is the windmill is newer than the bike.  In fact, it's brand new.  It's basically just a decoration at a new skateboard park.
