What is the IT difference between some youtube videos and others that allows you to embed some and not others?  Why can Facebook embed a video and the same one will only appear as a link here?

I copy-paste the link and then manually remove the "s" at the end of "HTTPS".  Haven't really had any issues doing it that way.

I believe it's mostly has to to with the URL you paste in. The board has some code that looks at certain URLs and says, "hey, that's a youtube video" and embeds, but the code is probably a little behind the various short URLs youtube/google have available. One note is that https does seem to work these days. I'd think that when the board software gets updated from time to time the URL parser will recognize the other URL formats. Mr. We've's advice is sound, you should copy the URL out of the address bar in your browser rather than the link Youtube provides when you click "share".

The video below is linked as:

https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UfKwzCVRJg (without the space after //):

Clicking share in youtube and using the URL provided doesn't embed: https://youtu.be/2UfKwzCVRJg, nor does without the https: http://youtu.be/2UfKwzCVRJg ; but note that you could convert it to the other format; just replace "youtu.be/" with "www.youtube.com/watch?v=" and keep the string of characters the same. https://youtu.be/2UfKwzCVRJg becomes https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UfKwzCVRJg (again without the space). This may be useful if you're posting from a phone or something and can't access the classic format URL.

Once in awhile you'll see the "embed" URL format which doesn't embed on the board, but does play the video in the entire browser window: https://www.youtube....bed/2UfKwzCVRJg
