Fred has been on my mind lots lately. While contemplating the vast numbers of folks who showed up for his calling hours(I'd say at least 200), I began to recognize the connection between my successes in my trade with the learned(or inherited) philosophies of Fred. Uneducated, yet well spoken. Foul mouthed, yet respectful. Hard assed, yet kind. He didn't care who you are or where you came from. "Do you want to be deliriously happy?". You certainly were, Fred. I am too.

Jack Astor's has Festivus themed food and drink options. Gingerbread chicken? Gingerbread chicken!!!

I'm also enjoying a Flying Bison scotch ale, which I've never seen before. Quite tasty. Finished Christmas shopping, now I'm either gonna brave the blizzardish conditions...or down a few more of these and go watch Star Wars.

Never had the FB Scotch Ale?!! I had Tim H. brew early versions of that for some epic Harlem road parties circa the late 90s. Great stuff!

I thought there was just meatloaf on a bed of lettuce with a side dish of peas. And whatever Kruger had in the flask.

Yup, first time I ever saw the stuff was today. Goddamn delicious. Possible recency bias kicking in, but I think it's my favorite of the Flying Bison offerings I've had.

:w00t: I was a little dubious at first seeing it was from College Humor, but someone else mentioned recently that the story didn't go down the way everyone thought it did, so it might be legit.  And sign me up for the "PA Ruins Everything" YouTube channel, lol.

Eh.... is it?

Hyper-nationalism is the current fad.  That can devolve very quickly into dangerous situations.  Could it be a pretext for Russia to attack Turkey?  Even though it's a bit estranged from the West at the moment, Turkey is still a NATO nation.  Things could get ugly.

If this situation were to occur, I am particularly worried at how Europe and the United States will react given their own tensions and charged emotions domestically. I think a lot of these areas are the least prepared they have been to deal with a global conflict in a long time.

I don't think Russia will attack Turkey in the military sense.

NATO would have to respond to something like that.

Hard line nationalism, as Doohickie pointed out, is a real problem, just about everywhere.

The world was on the verge of WWIII.  A pretty much all, or at least extensive, nuke affair.

Now calmer heads did prevail, but it did cost Nikita his *job*.

Unfortunately, there were no calm heads in 1914, so I will give you that.

What happened to the thread you started on it?

This place is like the Bermuda Triangle sometimes.

Anyway, CBC now reporting that 9 killed and over 50 injured in Berlin.  I find it hard to believe that is simply an accident.
