Some draft pick crap to figure out but looks like he's in. (Which I think is a load of crap)

Chime in...

I'm curious who you guys and gals think he'll pull in for assistant coaches?

I'm praying he pulls in Tong Granato. I still think he's a future head coach, but I think he'd be a great asset here to start.
He was with Bylsma in Pittsburgh and ended up in Detroit last year. With Babcock out there I'm not sure where he stands with the Wings, but I hope he comes along.

Keeping Irbe is a must.

Wasn't Teppo Numminen seen in a recent video with GMTM and Dan?

My guess is that he is coming on as an assistant or the Sabres have him in some other role already.

Sabs would be smart to refuse draft pick compensation to Pittsburgh.  If Pittsburgh wants to become known as a place where a coach can't pursue his profession after being fired, so be it.

For what it's worth some guy on Twitter posing as our own jw tweeted this:
Just filed: Person familiar with talks tells AP that #Sabres have agreement in place to hire Dan Bylsma pending compensation to #Penguins.

Considering the goaltending problems that plagued Bylsma in Pittsburgh (Fleurry had a .891 playoff save % post-Cup), I'd think Irbe would be a useful addition to the staff.  Beyond that ????

It would make sense that he'd find a way to get Granato. Retain Irbe, get Richardson due to the TM connection, & maybe 1 other to round it out.

Unless Irbe really liked Buffalo, I expect him to be gone. Not because Bylsma wouldn't want him, but because eTeds Nolans isn't and he can just go home to Latvia.

FWIW we should get an official hiring today. NHL won't want this hanging over two game sevens on Friday and Saturday (yeah eleven, sevens!)

In honour of Disco Dan's hiring, I'm posting a video of *my* personal favorite disco song.

That change with the horny horns, though.

And, if all goes according to plan: We ALL should be dancing.

The compensation is stupid but I feel like the hold up must be more than that.  Is Pittsburgh being d##ks or something?

I just want to see this press conference honestly. Murray and Bylsma just chillin up there being like "Hey, we are going to win some cups."

The Penguins fire the guy and want to continue to pay him not to work for them apparently.

They probably want to see if they can twist the Sabres arms for a higher pick. Why not try and see how Murray and Pegula react?

The rule is apparently black-and-white: a third-round pick as compensation for coach in the off-season.

So it doesn't seem like arm-twisting is involved.

It's either Sabres whining about how it shouldn't apply to a fired coach, or they are waiting on clarification over which third-round pick should go.

Possible hang up on picks thought: If PIT wants BUF’s actual third in ‘16 that would affect BUF’s ability to serve offer sheets.

Hadn't considered this possibility. Interesting to think about.

Know nothing of the BUF side of things. But the Bylsma hire as it relates to draft picks has been put to bed as far as Pens are concerned.

I saw some tweets that say that "game sevens" is actually correct. Something to do with compound nouns?

does "games seven" sound grammatical? no, bc it's not. "game seven" is a compound noun, correctly pluralized as "game sevens"

The idea that BUF has to give up a pick to a team that fired the coach is absolutely ridiculous.   How can that be allowed?

It's allowed, but the Sabres should be forcing the Penguins to blink first.  No way can a team want to get the reputation they would get if they don't let Bylsma walk.

According to the Gregg Reference Manual, both attorneys general and attorney generals are recognized; though it does state that attorneys general is preferred.

As for games 7 or game 7s, it comes down to which is the chief component. Is it game or 7?

they did not fire him. they relieved him of his duties and kept paying him under his existing contract. as a result, they get to enjoy the upside of the rule that requires they be compensated for him being hired. seems fair to me.

good stuff from travis yost

http://www.tsn.ca/by...record-1.293813

yost-graph-bylsma.jpg

"This is unspeakably impressive, and one of the big reasons I’m such an ardent supporter of Dan Bylsma getting another coaching gig – be it in Buffalo or elsewhere. Without Crosby/Malkin in the lineup, Pittsburgh still scored 51.6% of the goals and generated 51.9% of the scoring chances at even-strength – a shade below their norm, but still well above break-even. And, their Corsi% -- the rate at which they controlled play at 5-on-5 – actually improved by a sliver, to 51.8%."

That's one reason why no one batted an eye when teams offered Babcock a long-term contract: even if it doesn't work out, you can be sure that you can sell him to another team.
