@SabresPR53s
#Sabres GM Darcy Regier announces forward Patrick Kaleta has been placed on waivers.

Wow that escalated quickly....

What kind of waivers?

To send him Rochester, or is he released?

Does it really matter.

Even though he has gumshion, I have thought for some time that Kaleta does not belong on the Sabres, or in the NHL.

Sent to Rochester if he isn't claimed

It's all the same waivers. He's released if someone claims him and can go to Rochester if not.

Well, the good news is that it's been 3 years and the $1,000,000+ for the "sick kids" still hasn't been tapped.

Yep, which is also part of the reason why your GDT is a hot sloppy mess leading up to the game.

I'm beginning to not understand what's going on anymore. Carry on Buffalo, carry on.

Good luck to Pat. I hope someone picks him up. He's a blood and guts guy suffering at the hands of the DoPS and a league with an anti-Sabres agenda.

He wised up too late. I appreciate when he calmed down and really did lay it all out on the ice....one of the few over the recent past to do so. You can't erase history I guess.

Of course they can. But the disproportionate punishment of Kaleta over the years is undeniable.

I wonder if he was, pardon the pun, on thin ice with management after the last suspension, or if this is all reactionary to the media ######.

I also wonder if Scott will face the same.

In any case, Patty bled Blue and Gold and was willing to (try to) do anything for this team.  He worked hard to be better.

Most of his punishments have been well earned. Besides, that would show an anti-Kaleta agenda more so than an anti-Sabres agenda.

I think he was evolving into a pretty solid fourth liner.  Can skate, can check.  If the guy had any shot at all, he'd be a top-6 forward.  But he doesn't.

To me this is reactionary and further shows that Darcy and co don't know WTF they are doing.  The ONLY way this makes any sense at all at this point in the season is if they feel like he is setting a poor example for the younger guys.

this move probably makes the organization look better around the nhl, but certainly is going to anger people in buffalo waiving a hometown player who plays hard every game

I don't like it.  Kaleta can be an effective player when he wants to be.  He has speed and isn't bad defensively.  And, at this point I don't have much faith in anything Darcy does.  Someone will pick up Kaleta, I'm guessing.

Even if it's warranted, etc, it's kind of tough to watch.

From this morning's article:

Quote

“I’m just going to try and infuse some energy in the lineup and bring hard work, hard work and hard work,” Kaleta said. “Try to play passionate and like I said bring some hard work.”

I feel the same way, I like him on the PK and the game always matter to him.  But his lack of control really creates bad situations.  Then again if we are going to suck so hard this year, why not goon it up a little.

The Sabres knew his next suspension was just a matter of time and they didn't want a roster spot wasted with him ineligible to play.

Sad to hear it as he's been one of my favorite players for years. He may have made some questionable hits over the years but no one can doubt his effort and grit. Hopefully he clears waivers so he can stay within the organization. I'd hate to see him get picked up by a team like Boston or Philly but I bet he'd have a much longer leash on a (to quote Eleven) "most favored" team like the Boston Massholes.

One of only a small handful of guys on this miserable team that you could depend on to give 100% on every shift. Excellent on the PK. Blocks shots with abandon. Draws penalties. Hits. Fights. Agitates. Bleeds blue and gold. Pretty much the perfect fourth line player, and his effort and heart are exactly what this team needs more of.

If you're actually trying to be "harder to play against," you don't waive Kaleta.

Darcy is a effing clown. Kaleta is a heart and sole player who is great on the PK and will go to war over and over and over for his teammates. There are plenty of guys in the league who play a similar style, they just are not trying to be run out of the league like Shannasuck and Bettfart are trying to do to Kaleta.

IF Shanasuck punished everyone equal there would be a lot of guys with a very similar history as Kaleta, therefor they wouldn't be trying to make an example of Kaleta. JMO of course.

I bet he doesn't last 12 hours on waivers without being picked up.

Is the assumption this decision was Regier's? We'll have to wait and see what happens to Scott when his suspension is up. I have to wonder if this came down from Pegula. Kaleta and Scott's suspensions have been huge embarrassments for the franchise.

The AHL is usually where players grow & develop. Patrick Kaleta will be joining the #Amerks to reinvent his game: http://on.rocne.ws/1gjks8N
