Good. Mike has improved. Let's see if he can keep developing into that shutdown D man we need.

Not overly concerned with the terms at the moment, just glad he's aboard.
He's emerging and he's going to be a part of what we build moving forward.

I haven't seen any numbers. Three years makes it interesting. Maybe it's 1.5 or so?

Weber really impressed me this season. Let's hope he keeps it up. His game was simple, physical and effective. Perfect 4/5 guy

For three years, I'd guess $4.1M total.

It's 3 years, 5 mill.

$1.5 in the first two seasons and then $2 mill in year three.

He's from Pittsburgh. Orpik is from Amherst. Interesting comparison with that little caveat.

If he improved over each of the next two years like he improved this past year, he'd be a $3.5-$4.5M guy.  I'd like to see that.

We can only hope Weber turns out to be as good as Orpik.  In any event, good deal for a solid 3rd pairing guy, which is hopefully the level of play he maintains.

So would i...but I just don't see that kind of potential in him, although I feel like I'm in a minority around here on that.

I'm not sure I see it in him either, but I'd like to see him expand that potential somewhat through the implementation of his great work ethic.  Honestly, I'm still not sold on his abilities or consistency, but "he's got guts, and guts is enough."

I have found that interesting as well....Weber is no number 1 or 2 dman but he is a solid 12-14 minute dman by far....He is a good solid hockey player that hurts people in the corners and around the net....

Steal.  Weber was consistantly one of the best two defensemen on the ice all year.  I honestly feel kind of bad for him.  If he were an UFA, I'm sure he could have got double (see Steve Montador).

Don't think this belongs here, but it might. I hope this is true, keeping Ott is huge in my opinion. Weber and Ott share the same agent.

John Vogl@BuffNewsVogl  6m
Gourwitz also represents Steve Ott, who has 1 year left on contract, and he "hopes and expects" to talk with Sabres after draft about deal.

I can see why you value him. But I don't think he makes double in this market.

This will be Weber's make-or-break contract.  I've always liked Weber, and each season he gets "better".  He isn't saddled with Myers-like expectations, none of this offensive-defenseman crap.  I liken him to Regehr; I hope he was paying attention while he was attending Robyn's classes.

Obviously I like the deal as I have been all about Weber for 2 years now. That being said, I think the price is reasonable for what he brings to the team.  I love the duration of the deal.  Also I find it interesting that he has been the 7th guy to start the last 3 seasons then once he was in the lineup never left.  Ruff I think misjudged and misused him. Hopefully Rolston understands Weber isn't joining the rush or putting up big numbers, but he can skate quite well and has a deceptively hard slap shot.

Also Mike Weber likes to make it hell to play in our zone, we need more of that.

It's a good signing on its merits and hopefully it comes with a bonus in that we'll be in a better position to re-sign Ott, since he and Weber are BFFs.

Nice job, Marcy -- signing Otter's butt buddy. That guy's nothing better than a 7th d-man on a playoff team. This franchise can't do anything right.
