Right. A team needs some personality and John Scott is a good change of pace. Keeping things light in the room can be important when your team sucks.

His job as comedic relief is probably more important than him actually playing hockey or smacking someone silly with his big ol' ham fists. Being ridiculous keeps that grim reaper in the locker room at bay. Besides, I look forward to painting him photobombing more Sabres someday. So, yay John Scott!

It's a good move to have one true enforcer on this particular team.

PS:  Josie, I'm not a reddit regular, but I visit from time to time, and over the weekend, I noticed that the Sabres group over there is using your painting as its wall art.

Well, the Sabres' theme last summer was getting bigger, tougher, grittier and harder to play against. It worked so well, a promotion is certainly in order. Eighth grade is gonna be so awesome!

I think he improved quite a bit since the season began, especially in his skating and tactics as a defensive forward.  It would be nice to see him and Kaleta develop towards legitimate third line defensive players.

I don't think work ethic is an issue with Scott.  He seems to push himself to do everything that is asked by the coaching staff to the best of his abilities, and it's his abilities that continue to develop.

I feel that Scott got more responsibility as a regular shifts player than management and he himself originally had thought. I would like to see him used even more. Aside from a pretty severe lack of speed he generally performed much better than I expected. One of the success criteria for me this next season is if John Scott scores one or more goals for the Sabres, I would love to see it.

People are making Scott out to be something way more than the enforcer he is.  He will be 31 in the fall, and his skating is awful.   He is not going to be a 3rd line shutdown player nor is he good in his own end from a defensive perspective.  A 4th line goon who is supposedly a funny guy in the locker room.  Seems like he is nothing more than an Andrew Peters(another supposedly funny guy) except for being a better fighter.

I have resigned to stinking, but that's not because John Scott would be called upon for some regular 4th line shifts. We will stink because we are overloaded with Flynn's, Gerbe's and Porters, and have a one person 1st line.

This makes me so happy, mostly because I want to see him score a goal.  I'm predicting his celebration will be combination Kaleta glove roll and a pond swim at center ice (a la Afenigenov's OT winner).  I just hope he doesn't crack the ice when he belly flops.  :P

This was very necessary and important. The Sabres desperately need a couple more tough guys to protect the all the soft players that dominate the lineup. Anybody watching the playoffs at this point can see how far away the Sabres are from being a Cup contender. Too soft and not enough talent.

It depends how you are defining soft but definitely not enough talent.

Keeping things light in the locker room can be important to make your team successful. Character players are just as important as talent in my opinion. If the Sabres had guys like Ott and Scott the last few years, probably wouldn't be in a position to rebuild right now. Great sign! Now if they can just convince Vanek and Ott that it will be a short term rebuild, extensions are a must!

With Roy and Pominsteen gone,we got rid of a lot of our creampuffs.  I'm dreading Tyler Myers and Drew Staphford on the same line next year... unless the goal is to have the line with the worst plus/minus in human history, past, present and future.

Was your hard on for Myers this big when he won ROTY?
