2013 Memorial Cup Final 4 are London, Portland, Halifax, and host Saskatoon.http://www.mastercardmemorialcup.ca/

We'll get to see the top three prospects (Jones, MacKinnon, and Drouin) in action along with Sabres prospect Andrey Makarov in goal with Saskatoon.

Forgot to mention that London also has top prospects Bo Horvat, Max Domi and Nikita Zadorov.

Horvat scores with 0.1 seconds left as Knights beat Colts in Game 7 of OHL final: http://www.thespec.c...7-of-ohl-final/

If you have a chance to watch London play in the Memorial Cup, keep an eye on Horvat as he may well get consideration from the Sabres at pick 8 if they are unable to get Barkov, Lindholm, or Monahan.

BTW London hosts the 2014 Memorial Cup.

Horvat projects like Girgensons and Larsson — a warrior built for playoff hockey.
He's got top-end heart and smarts, added to enough skill to play on the second line.
If neither Lindholm nor Monahan slips to us, he's my target at eight.

I would look at him at 16 but not at 8.

At #10 in the current ISS rankings, Horvat merits consideration. Especially since he plays Center:  http://www.hockeysfu...-top-prospects/

This is a conversation for the other thread, I don't want to derail this one but I would like to delve into this with you.

Back on topic, who has a favorite to win the Memorial Cup? Also Makarov in action should be good for us Sabres fans

Oh, any of the teams that won their league playoff could easily win it.  It's like Champions League in football.  Not sure what to make of Saskatoon.  The host often gets a boost, since they, usually, do not have to go through a long playoff grind.

Halifax was not really tested until the Q final, when they faced that bunch of cheaters and cheap shot artists.  The Drakkar didn't really test them in a hockey sense, except for game 3, when the Mooseheads did not bring their *A* game.  16 - 1 playoff record.

I'm not saying Halifax should win as a fan and because they are my home town team.

They are extremely strong in every aspect of the game.

GO MOOSEHEADS!!

Unless I don't understand the transgression than no it isn't tainted. Cell Phones and Family Flights don't really taint a championship to me.

Quote

On December 28, 2012 the WHL announced sanctions against the Portland Winterhawks for a series of player benefits violations over the four previous season's. As punishment for the violations WHL commissioner Ron Robison suspended the team from participation in the first five rounds of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and forfeiture of their first round picks from the 2014-2017 WHL Bantam Drafts and were fined $200,000. The WHL also suspended General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston for the remainder of the 2012–13 WHL season including the 2013 WHL playoffs.

Probably not the whole story.

Either you play by the rules, or it's cheating.

No matter, IMO, if the cheating is viewed by many as *only a little cheating*.

did it effect the product on the ice, doesn't seem to have so it doesn't taint a championship

if tomorrow I hear that Alabama gives guys paper bag lunches stuffed with 100$ bills so they come there than that taints championships because it changes the on field/ice product

Portland Center Nicolas Petan is an interesting prospect.  He is tiny, but he led the WHL in scoring (120 points in 71 games) and was a ridiculous +68.  He seems to have come out of nowhere.  One season wonder?  Did his linemates make him look better than he really is?  It'll be interesting to see where he is drafted.

Knights top Blades in Memorial Cup opener: http://www.sportsnet...ial-cup-opener/

http://www.sportsnet...larz-in-opener/

Player of the Game: Blades goaltender Makarov made some fantastic saves early in the game while his teammates found their game legs following their long layoff. He stopped 30-of-33 shots in the loss.

“Makarov was outstanding,” Blades head coach Lorne Molleken said. “If it wasn’t for him in that first period, the game would have been a lot different as it went on. He’s a world class goaltender and he gave us that opportunity tonight.”

“He’s our backbone to our team and he was the reason why he kept us in the game,” Nicholls said. “It should have been 5-1 in the first but he made four huge saves for us.”

Halifax and Portland tied at 1 after the first.

The first 10 minutes the teams really felt each other out.

Frk scored first from MacKinnon.

Jones tied it late in the period

End of the second period ... 6 - 3 Mooseheads ..........

Portland scored two real quick goals early in the period to lead 3 - 1.

Then the Mooseheads scored the next 5 goals ... MacKinnon with the hatty ... his 3rd goal was a SH goal, from behind the net, no less.

The game has just gone final ... 7 - 4.

*The Moose win!!  The Moose won!!*

MacKinnon named the #1 star.  3 goals and 1 assist ... +4.

EDIT:

Jones was on the ice everytime that MacKinnon was and on MacKinnon's second goal he just turned Jones inside out.

Blades strike again to go up 3-0 on the mighty mooseheads.

Make that 4-0 after a PP tally.

Mooseheads score the next two to make it 4-2.

Blades win it 5-2 with an ENG to close it out.

Wow what a sweet pass by Domi. That's why I was telling people Domi and Horvat look good might be a strong possibility at 16 or if they move up and grab another first between 9-15. I wouldn't mind seeing them move up and try to grab 3 players in the top 16. Maybe move both second rounders and one of next years second rounders. So 3 seconds for a 1st.

Based on the bits of seen, Domi and Horvat look like better propsects.
