We all know how we feel about Sully, but do you think he is right?

I think he's right in the sense that Miller's played his last home game here.
And it is quite a debasing end to a solid career here.

I don't think he's right about a better use for $6 million next year.
I don't really see who to invest in right away, not in cap trouble, thin UFA market for what the team needs.

Agree with all of this.  There's nothing to spend the money on, so I really could care less about "freeing up $6M."  But it's pretty much over for Miller in Buffalo; he definitely seems ready for a fresh start.

Finding a place to trade him and get good value is going to be a nightmare though.

There is good news in the UFA market though. Pretty thin for goalies.
Which helps Miller's value.

I have to say it is refreshing to hear Miller openly talk about the failures of past seasons, about not getting it done and about mediocrity. When does that bright flashing neon arrow point down at Regiers head ? I wonder if TP is even paying attention ? His other shiny new toys seem to have him occupied lately.

Come on, this forum has been calling Miller as good as gone since before the deadline. What took Sully so long to come around?

I'm not looking forward to Miller doing really effing good on his next team. That's going to be embarrassing for the fans here who don't think he's that good.

For the record though, I'm ready for him to go. I just don't want it to be assumed for a second that I somehow consider him anywhere below All-Star status.

I'm convinced "Sully" (why do we give nicknames to people we despise?)  is a troll in The Aud Club. It takes awhile to get a consensus opinion since he has none of his own except "whatever it is, I'm against it."

He is unworthy of the journalism badge he wears but look around you, are there any journalists left?

I know many good journalists. They just have to fight tooth and nail for what they believe in: integrity.

It's not easy these days when big news is losing readership and good journalists aren't getting paid.

Journalists and integrity, IMO, don't really go together now-a-days.  In the past?  Sure.

Now it seems more about getting readers / hits and making $, IMO.

here in Boston I realized that there was an incredible stream of misinformation. My opinion is these so-called journalists wanted to get the story out first but didn't care about if there was any or much truth to it.

I do not like to loseMiller.

I like him and what he said after the game was absolutely right.

But who do think will try to get him?

If Chicago fails again because of devastating goaltending, they may try it.

The same may fit for Anaheim. New Jersey needs an post Brodeur type of goalie but they will rebuild too, so whyi nvest 6 mill in a goalie? Hmm Washington can also be interested if Holtby does not deliver in the playoffs.

But what will be the return? What do we need the most? Our offense is hard working but  bad, our defense was a mess this year and our goaltending did not stick to the expectations too.

It really wasn't any better in the past.  If anything, it was worse because people had fewer options.

Things are better now because the internet lets regular people balance out what happens when professional journalists are lazy or misleading.  (For a sports example, check out how Deadspin was the only outlet to notice the Manti Te'O thing.)

I have to vehemently disagree. While the journalism business is certainly about generating traffic, what we are seeing at the local level is insistence that reporters be accountable for what they say. Social media means that anything a journalist says is disseminated very quickly and if wrong can be rubuked just as fast. Essentially you have to be right the first time and if you aren't you get blacklisted by the consumer base.

Now we are waiting for the national media to catch up. Because people consume their product without scrutiny and the consequences of being wrong are nil.

Remember when Wawrow would have all the Sabres stories under the old lockdown ownership? Now McKenzie is the prefered choice for this lockdown group. Wawrow hardly has a peep. But while I used to listen to McKenzie without a raiser brow, now the pattern is strong enough to know he is being fed.

With all the technology and information available, the public can dig just as deep as 95% of those who are part of the establishment. And I'd still love to know just who or what was the deal with the first Mrs. P........I've seen less scrubbing at a bird sanctuary during an Exxon oil spill.......

Oh, and I wish Miller the best. He really stepped up as a leader this year in my opinion. He deserves a chance to win and be used correctly.

I really doubt that they will get value equivalent to what Miller brings to this team so I am expecting to be very unhappy at what they get in return for Miller if he is, in fact, traded.

Back in the '70's, the Habs' fans ran Ken Dryden out of town.  A team that had been winning Stanley Cups about every 3 years on average and the last 4 only won 2 the next 14 seasons.

In the '90's, the Habs' coach ran Patrick Roy out of town.  A team that had won 24 Stanley Cups is still waiting for #25 and they watched the team that had formerly been their biggest rival win the next 2 w/ Roy between the pipes.

Not saying that Miller is another Dryden or Roy, but how has Carolina done since Ward went down?  Be VERY careful in what you wish for, you just might get it.

When I watched the game and saw the "wave" first thing I thought was "this is his Patrick Roy moment".    If Ryan goes I will miss him as he is/was a big part of the Sabres.  He is a top goaltender and I do believe in a different city he would thrive.  I wouldn't mind at all him hoisting the Cup at all.

Well, i'm ready to hear another teams fans whine and complain on how they were fleeced because Miller's GAA and SV% are similar to what they were in Buffalo at only 37th and 20th respectively.

There are only 30 teams in the NHL right? He is currently 37th in GAA, so all teams have 1, and 8 teams have 2 goaltenders better than Ryan in GAA. All Star material alright. I think Darcy is going to have a hard time moving him this summer, IMHO. Who would want him? Maybe a contending team needs a backup. The only option might be letting him walk next year after his contract ends.

I don't want to see Miller go, either. I think he's a good goalie that's shown he can get us deep when the other pieces are around him. Needless to say, we are way short of other pieces at the moment.

That said, I feel he has to go. He has made an enemy out of the fans and clearly sounds like he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuilding effort. He's mentally checked out of town. It's time for his body to follow.

Thanks for the great times, Ryan. Good luck where ever you end up.

GO SABRES!!!

Enroth led us to the playoffs three years ago and the year before that was when Myers dominated the whole league as a rookie and we won the division.  Miller is a good goalie but we can't really give him credit for our two post-2007 trips to the playoffs.

consider:  10 of those players have less than 100 saves. 19 have less than half the time as Miller.

There are only 12 goalies with as half as many starts as Miller, (dipping down to 18 games started to Miller's 37)  that have a higher save percentage.

I think that's more reflective of what a team would be getting.

Only Niemi and Lundquist have put in more work than Miller with a higher save percentage.

I try to think like the protagonists for this sort of question.

I believe Pegula is a solutions guy.  The narrative last offseason was that defensemen got hurt, Miller got run, and they played too many backs to back.  The solution was to sign 9 defensemen, signed John Scott, stopped playing Friday Night (if I remember right).  This year I can't think of a serious narrative that involves Miller.

I believe Regier is a value guy.  He shopped Miller at the deadline, not enough.  I think there will be much less offered in the offseason.  He also feels burned by Drury and the other one, so he won't let him go to free agency.

My prediction, 2 more years offered at 13 million, which Miller signs.
