I would post my prediction as to what I think will happen, but i don't want to upset Rolston's or Miller's feelings anymore.

This will be a tough one to watch.  Winnipeg will skate circles around them tonight.  If there is a W in the offing, it will have to be stolen.  This is not a great matchup on the best of days and Sabres teams.

If buffalo wins it will make it 4 in a row, and they'll be 2 points behind BOTH the rangers and islanders who are currently in 7th and 8th place, so I'm expecting a loss

I disagree. They'll win this game but fail to win the next, therefore remaining within spitting distance of the playoffs. They will remain two points out for the of the season.

Winnipeg was freefalling for a few games, but then looked pretty good in a win against Philly Saturday.

While the Sabres don't have to win every game down the stretch, this one is critical.  Winnipeg is one of the teams the Sabres are chasing, so a regulation win is that much more important.  Looking at the teams in front of the Sabres, though, you have to go all the way up to No. 5 Toronto to find a team that's done better over its last 10 games.  If the games over the next day or two fall right, the Sabres could be knocking on the playoff door with a win.

This.  Come the last 1/4 of any season the Sabres are as predictable as the rising sun.

I don't think I have looked at the schedule since the beginning of the season.  The remaining games are tough but 7 of 10 are in Buffalo:

Buffalo 7H, 3A
Tue Apr 9, 2013 Sabres Jets
Thu Apr 11, 2013   Canadiens   Sabres
Sat Apr 13, 2013    Flyers Sabres
Sun Apr 14, 2013   Lightning Sabres
Wed Apr 17, 2013 Sabres    Bruins
Fri Apr 19, 2013 Rangers Sabres
Sat Apr 20, 2013    Sabres    Penguins
Mon Apr 22, 2013 Jets Sabres
Fri Apr 26, 2013 Islanders Sabres

Rangers remaining 4H, 5A
Wed Apr 10, 2013 Maple Leafs   Rangers
Sat Apr 13, 2013    Rangers Islanders
Tue Apr 16, 2013   Rangers Flyers
Thu Apr 18, 2013   Panthers    Rangers
Fri Apr 19, 2013 Rangers Sabres
Sun Apr 21, 2013   Devils Rangers
Tue Apr 23, 2013   Rangers Panthers
Thu Apr 25, 2013   Rangers Hurricanes
Sat Apr 27, 2013    Devils Rangers

Isles remaining 3H, 6A
Tue Apr 9, 2013 Flyers Islanders
Thu Apr 11, 2013   Islanders    Bruins
Sat Apr 13, 2013    Rangers Islanders
Tue Apr 16, 2013   Panthers    Islanders
Thu Apr 18, 2013   Islanders    Maple Leafs
Sat Apr 20, 2013    Islanders    Jets
Tue Apr 23, 2013   Islanders    Hurricanes
Thu Apr 25, 2013   Islanders    Flyers
Fri Apr 26, 2013 Islanders    Sabres

Each team plays head to head, Rangers and Isles have one back-to-back and Bufalo has two.  Isles will be playing their B2B against Buffalo to end the season and it's on the road.

Final 20 contests over the last few seasons...

11-12:  11-6-3
10-11:  13-4-3
09-10:  12-7-1
08-09:  10-8-2
07-08:  10-7-3

Totals:  56-32-12  (124 points in 100 games)

This year, the final 20 games doesn't comprise the final 1/4 of the season, but for the sake of argument, we'll start counting from game 28 anyway.  So far they're 6-3-2 (14 points in 11 games).

Pretty alarmingly consistent

3 game win streak. What are the odds they go 4 ? I'm kind of waiting for them to regress back to the team that doesn't show effort and goes through the motions but maybe I'm jaded from how they've behaved in the past. Anyhoo...I can't say I don't like their game lately because I do and I feel pride in the results its just I WANT A TOP 3 PICK DAMMIT !

As always, GO SABRES !

I don't see a lack of effort ending this mini-streak, but a lack of talent might do it.  The contributing guys right now are either try-hards by nature (Ott, Hecht, Kaleta) and guys trying to make next season's roster (Flynn, Porter, Pysyk).  They won't suddenly stop trying, but if that's your core group then they'll get shut out from time to time.

It's #30 that concerns me, frankly.  He's vacillated damn quickly this season between dominance and suckitude.  If the floodgates open again, this team doesn't have the guns to outduel teams 5-4, 6-5, etc.

Recent quotes about staying "professional" lead me to think that he's not ready for a lion-hearted charge to 8th.

I'm still looking at the upside of the Sabres making the playoffs.  Oddly enough, if they make it, I like their chances.  The reasoning is this:  They are a longshot, but if they make it, it will be because of a hot streak.  They will probably be the hottest team going into the playoffs.  They've done reasonably well against their opponents, especially Boston and Montreal, but even Pittsburgh (assuming they beat the Pens down the stretch).  If they Sabres get in, they are not the team I'd want to face because ti would mean they roared in.

Yes, I know it's unlikely, but this is why we root for the team, isn't it?

Miller never sucked this year.  The team in front of him sucked.  Sometimes a goalie is so good you start taking it for granted.  No goalie can carry a bunch of street cones to victory every night.

Any Leino/Vanek tonight?

Side note, making a bold prediction here, Stafford scores the game winner. The guy has a twisted wrister, he just refuses to shoot at the right times.

I doubt Leino goes. You get two buyouts, they can be used either this summer or next summer, you still pay the player but it doesn't count towards the cap. We lack top 6 wingers as it is, we need Leino - plus he put up good numbers this year.

This team has more fire power than the two previous games but worse GT (IMPO) so it should be interesting to see how we do.  I'd like to see us keep the shots against under 30

Winnipeg is a bigger forechecking team, and good at home typically. That buildings gets loud. Too get will be a tough pull for buffalo. But a very important game to keep the slimmest of slim chances alive
