SABRES (12-15-4) at CANADIENS (20-5-5)
TV: RDS, CBC, MSG-Buffalo

Sabres 4 pts out of 8th.  But taking into account tiebreakers - really 5pts out of a playoff spot.

If they can pull out a second (in 5 nights) win against the Habs on the road tonight, I would be impressed and think that things may be changing.

The Peg has totally fallen apart, Carolina lost another tender, the Rangers are a mess and I can't believe I'm saying this but - tonight is actually a pretty big game. I never thought those words would be coming out of my mouth again this season. Now, if they come out and crap the bed again (like they usually do after a solid performance), then back to the draft pick I go. I would love it if each one of them could show a little Ott tonight and win back the fans of this city.

Here is to getting the BUFFALO Sabres back tonight

Good test of contender or pretender status tonight.  I'm going with former..  Stay out of the box, especially tonight.

Some interesting facts noticed while looking at the standings.

In their last ten games, the top four teams in the East are 29-11. Of the 11 remaining teams, none are above .500 over the last ten games.

For those chasing the #1 pick. The bottom three teams in the West all have two games in hand on the Sabres.

The Devils are the only team in the East under .500 (14-17) currently holding a playoff spot. The Rangers are the only team in the East .500 or better not holding a playoff spot.

There are only 6 teams in the West .500 or better.

Six teams in the East have a positive goal differential. The West also has six teams with a positive goal differential and one team (Vancouver) even.

Win this game, Get 3 out of 4 in florida, and you're probably looking a 2-3 points out, even games going into the last weekend before the deadline.

Watch every Sabres Fan's head simultaneously explode.

I'll be excited if the Sabres win, but at the same time I'll be thinking of the draft and actual playoff chances. Let's face it, if the Sabres do make the playoffs, I find it very hard to believe they'd get out of the first round. All of sudden the Sabres can drop out of the serious selling market. This would mean everyone stays except Stafford. Really think he's a goner. And I really hope he is.

These ###### are gonna do it again. They're going to finish just high enough in the standings to ruin our shot at a franchise QB.

Not until I see who gets the first goal and how they are playing.

My gut tells me the Sabres are on a mini surge.  Habs will be a good test.

Every season they suck us back in.

After the last game where the habs threw over eighty shots towards the net I'm thinking if they don't tighten up this could be ugly. Who counts shots on goal in Montreal, Carey Prices Uncle Joe ? The race for the bottom is heating up and evolving with Philly now moving in that direction ( actually with Philly almost there ). I'm done with making predictions.

  As always, GO SABRES !

At least two fights, Miller allows at least one wtf goal and we lose in regulation, 4 to 2.

Coming off another subpar performance by Miller, should be Enroth's turn again.

I don't care!  I want some excitement over the next month!

Come on Sabres.  We complain about you all day and all night, but everyone here will be all in if you put it together and play hard down the stretch.

This crap team is going to run to 9th, cost us a star rookie talent, and not win a Cup. It's the trifecta from hell!

I still disagree. If the Habs have 3x the shot attempts tonight, they're going to get the puck luck and win the game. The Sabres will not go on a huge run without improving team possession, which they have given no indication will happen.

Very possible.

OTOH, if they make a run to 8th place, the only team in the EC that they would have no chance against in the first round is Pittsburgh.

Frankly, if they were to play the Habs in the first round, I would EXPECT the Sabres to win.

That's right.

As for the OP.  He must have gone to bed at 6:00 PM, set his alarm for 3:30, smoked a Camel, had a shot, eat a bowl of wheaties.  Well fortified and rested, he started the thread.

How many mimosas did you have with breakfast? This team has a losing record and has looked awful all season yet they're capable of beating any team in the East?

How are you arriving at this?

There are some people that whine about certain players only because they want to make the team better. Then there are others who just whine.

My impression was that we were playing at a much higher emotional level than Boston was.  I don't think it repeats once the playoffs start, and Boston won't be a favorable matchup when the emotional levels are about equal.

And I was kind of kidding with the matchup part.  I do still hold that the first two rounds are about matchups though.
