I'm not sure if sending him back is the right move, but I don't think it's the wrong one, if that makes sense. I'd probably rather he lead Quebec on a Memorial Cup run than play 5 minutes with Scott during this tire fire of a season. Is it better for his development? I don't know.

Let me add an addendum to my previous post. If this move is based on what is best for his development, then good. If it's because Regier needed a roster spot for Leino, then, let's just say I'll be putting the board's language filter to the test.

7 years to UFA.  By not skating the 23rd game this year won't count towards the 7.  Still takes a year of his entry level contract though.

I guess the press conference can shed more light on this? I'm not sure what the point of this is. I get why this timing. But why not earlier? If the last few games were a test, maybe give him more than 5 minutes

It will be interesting. As Ink suggested up thread, RR probably didn't go to bat for him since he's got his AHL players chomping at the bit.  

And Raptorze is right, he didn't appear to be playing hard.

If grigorenko is the future of the franchise, then he should be in buffalo playing, not in buffalo doing nothing and not in the Q.  The power play is dead last in the NHL and he can't even get a sniff of it.  It was reported that Rolston doesn't even let him practice on the power play.  Rolston has grigorenko stand next to him and listen while the power play is worked on.  A dead last power play and one of your most talented player can't even sniff it.  

On second thought maybe the kid isn't ready.  Even with John Scott on his wing he only has 5 points so maybe he should go back.

In the mean time Brennan and Hecht remain on the team.

The only way this makes sense is if he is part of a trade package and the new team doesn't want to blow it since they don't need him. Say..Stafford, Regehr and Grigs for Bobby Ryan.....

you dont have to send someone to juniors/minors to trade them. it wouldnt have anything to do with a trade. if he was part of a trade he would just be gone.

Grigs is not good enough at this point of his career to get regular ice time on a bad team.
He's not ready. The mistake is not sending him down, it was keeping him up in the first place.

I guess I'm in the minority by not hating this move at all.  He ain't gonna play with the Sabres (a diff topic for another day) so let him get a nice playoff run in Juniors, maybe get a tryou with the Amerks at seasons end and be NHL/AHL ready next season.  I like it.

Because the trade isn't today...it's a week or 2 from today....

I'm just trying to pull something positive out of my arse.....and I don't think that is overpayment....pretty much a 1st round pick that isn't precocious...and 2, 2nd round picks you could get for those other 2.

He can't play in the AHL for another 15 months.

I think the issue is more - why didn't he get NHL time? RR really screwed the guy. I agree 20mins in the Q is better than 5 in the NHL. But why didn't he get 10 in the NHL
