Does anyone else feel that the Briere trade depleted the Sabres chemistry and heart?

He wasn't traded, He was let go as a FA....................

And yes, losing him was a big loss, but everyone wanted Drury back more, except for Drury..............

Absolutely losing Danny Briere was the worst thing that Darcy has done in his tenure here. The guy wanted to stay here but Darcy turned up his nose at him.

I think it was more losing skill than chemistry and heart.  It wasn't just Briere or even Drury for that matter.  It's been a cumulative loss of talent over the last 6 years.  Half the guys on this years roster couldn't have cracked that lineup.

I'm probably wrong but there was a lot of speculation, even here, when this happened because OSP said that we could keep one of them.  They failed to keep Drury and Briere already had a foot out the door.  Either way, not really worth rehashing.

For the Coyotes back in 02?  Probably.  

Welcome to the board by the way.  July 1, 2007 was almost 5 years ago...  It was also the "day the music died" for the Sabres.  Darcy should have been canned on 7/2/07.  Either way, this team has been on a terrible downward spiral since that day, in large part due to the handling of Briere/Drury/Vanek's RFA offer sheet.

Actually, I think trading Marty Biron was the big mistake.  He was definitely a leader, and when he was traded Miller played every game down the stretch.  It would have been nice to have Biron play some and Miller be rested for the Playoffs.  Also, we haven't had a decent backup since.

Gratton for Briere.  What a steal.  Briere for nothing.  What a joke.  I agree it's been a downward spiral since 7/1/2007 (almost SIX years ago).  No talent, no heart, no brains. It all equals 29th place.

I thought I recall something about where Ruff said Hecht would often cover up for Briere defensively. I think that is one of the reasons they kept Hecht & let Briere walk.

Didn't the Sabres lose to Dumont to arbitration? It seemed as if he J.P. didn't want to go. And Buffalo wanted to keep him.

Everyone who says, "Let it go" or whatever:

It was clearly the definining moment of the Franchise moving forward. Since Briere and Drury left the team hasn't even been close to the same. Even with a large group of players that are still here.. To complain about how bad the Sabres are now, and then say get over it, when complaining about Briere and Drury is hypocrtiical. This franchise is still reeling from July 1st, 2007. 6 years later, they are still in a tailspin from that day. They recovered a bit in 2010 and just fell right back into that tailspin. It's like the Bills and a quarterback. Briere and Drury were the heart and soul of the Franchise, that was taken away and we haven't found someone else since.
