If they lose against the Jets at home then they need to shake up this team with a trade or two or hopefully a new coach with a new system. I'm hoping both.

Lol This team has been on fire for awhile now and not in a good way. I think they might win 1 out of the next 3 games with Mr. Black talking a lot about how TP has spent all this money and no one needs to question his commitment.

Jets have played us well at home and always come out fast. Not going to be an easy game for a team that likes to sleepwalk through the beginning and middle of games.

This is the exact type of game where we all end up scratching our heads wondering how the Sabres lost. The Sabres need to jump on the Jets early and give them no reason to believe they can win this game. The alternative? The Jets can leapfrog the Sabres into 12th place which is unfracking believable.

If the Sabres play like they did in period 3 against Boston, and like they did against Pittsburgh, a win will be the result tonight.

Last couple of games the effort has improved despite letdowns at inopportune times.
This teams still not very good despite better play.
There are still far too many passengers which leads me to believe that upper managements mantra of change will come from within the room is a waiting game that will not have the desired results. Apparently most everyone involved in the game sees it now except our ownership and management.
That being said despite my pessimism , as always GO SABRES !

It seems like other teams ricochet wide shots off the end wall in our barn and score with amazing regularity. We get fooled time after time in our own backyard... Yet we hardly use that play. Are we just stupid, incompetent or both?

I also see mass confusion in the defensive zone. I don't think I've seen any other team in the league with 5 guys in front of our own net as well as behind Miller in the goal like we have on a fairly regular basis. It doesn't help either.

They've got to make some decisions about this logjam on D. IMO Reggie Bandaid Boy, Leo and Weber can go and Myers is on the bubble. Instead, I'd play Brennan, McNabb and Pysyk.

If they don't go 4-1 at least these next few games, I'd pull the trigger on the underachieving D.

We have to turn this around at some point and as that article says these next five games are very winnable.  I like our third period against the Bruins and outside of the first 5 minutes of the game I liked Sunday as well.  Let's get the two points and start a little run here.

The Jets are going to come out pounding. This is the start of a 5 game road trip for them and they just got Bogosian back a few days ago, and Byfuglien is back after missing a few weeks. They will be looking to set a tone for the road trip and the rest of the year...and what better team to unleash your big boys against but the Sabres?

I love the Jets and they way they are built. If they will be as good as I think they can be, this is the type of game they wake up in. Goaltending has been iffy, but now their defense is back together.

The Sabres can hold up in talent, but if Winnipeg decides now is the time to go....this is the sort of game where a couple of the Sabres end up injured and the difference in size and grit in the top 3 lines is evident. Very interested in this outcome.....

Eventually something will give.  At some point this team will either break or finally put it all together.  I think the mood in that room is about to the point it needs to be.  I expect a good game from them tonight but that means nothing. 1 good game in 5 means nothing.

Anyone have lines for this thing?

I thought that in the Pittsburgh game Myers and Regehr looked like a very capable defence pairing and that Ennis Stafford Foligno were dangerous.
To me, when that is the case, this is a pretty good hockey team.
The fact it hasn't been the case is why we are where we are.

The Pittsburgh game was winnable. Hell, for that matter, *every* game is winnable ... but this team finds ways to lose in spectacular fashion. I have every reason to believe they *can* win; it's a matter of whether *they* believe it, and right now, I don't know if they do. I hope they crush the Jets tonight. That would be great. Toronto is on back-to-back shutouts. Tampa is 2 points out of 3rd (yes, I know ... weak division), so Islanders, Jets and Panthers ... a much greater chance at winning those than Toronto or Tampa Bay, IMHO.

I don't know. I'm burned out on all the couch potato analytics and hoping that something starts clicking for them.

Good call.  Ehrhoff has looked pretty good in the last couple of games as well.

Vogl is reporting that Leopold is getting healthy-scratched in favor of Brennan, and Stafford is being dropped to the 4th line:

What's wrong with Sekera?  I think in order to under achieve you need to play below your abilities.  Not sure that is really the case with this D.

Holy ######, about ###### time. Initially in the season, he was getting big minutes because he was the only defenseman besides Ehrhoff that was taking care of the puck, despite egregiously misreading defensive plays, and he actually had maybe two games where he improved a little.  But then about three games ago, both of those elements of his game got worse- he started causing turnovers and reading the play worse.

I think the confident ability to scratch him has come from Myers' recent improvement and Regehr's return to health.

I would absolutely not be surprised if Brennan plays on the powerplay tonight and a major part of the game plan is to murder Winnipeg with their 65.9% PK.

Is Grigo in trade rumours?
It seems weird to scratch the guy for back-to-back games. He hasn't been a liability and he can only improve on his game if he gets to put into practice what he learnt from the press box

All in all, at least it's a shake up in an otherwise brutal season so far.

Thats because Regehr covers Myers mistakes more often than not

Except for his three goals on miller...lol Hoff scores more on Miller than any NHL player.

I'm good with Brennan going into the lineup but Kaleta on the 2nd line?  Seriously?  Lets downgrade the skill lelvel of our top 6 even further.  

There is no hiding that Vanek needs to do it all now.

If Grigo isn't to be trusted centering the 3rd line, why not try Grigo on Hech's wing for the #3 line?

Watch only Myers on the ice tonight.. Count the number of times he loses the o zone. The number of times he gives the puck up in the d zone.. And the seconds that pass when he has the puck in his end before he decides what to do with it. He is still very young and very very inexperienced.

Lindy finally makes the move that people have been clamoring for at a bad time.  The Foligno - Ennis - Stafford line looked good last game and now Stafford gets demoted.  Just like how Luke Adam finally got sent back down but Lindy waited until AFTER he went to the ASG and his confidence was at an all time high.

Agree with all of this.  No idea what they're hoping to accomplish right now...especially after a couple of their best games of the year.  Yes, there were some pivotal breakdowns, but by and large they played a couple of strong games.  And now is the time to make serious lineup changes?

Glad Kaleta is being rewarded ( I think).  He causes plenty of havoc out there and maybe this gets a chance to see him run some of the oppositions top line players, but he'll probably only play 1 shift with these two and be shuffled down from there.

Not a bad idea.  Give him the opportunity to learn the speed of the game and then move him back to his natural position when he is more comfortable.
