Cody Hodgson has quietly accumulated 9 points in the last 6 games. He has 5 goals and 7 assists to Zach Kassian's 5 goals and 1 assists. Case closed. Cody is a magician with the puck and dishes the kind of passes  us Buffalo fans love to see, after rosters full of unskilled lunks who've thrown thousands of bad passes before him. Just thought he deserved some props for the way he's turned it around since last year and gelled with Vanek and Pomers.

I also think Cody does a good job at dishing the puck to his linemates. But he needs to work on his defensive zone coverage.

The defense needs to work on their defensive coverage first. I'm happy with Cody playing without fear in order to put points on the board.

Cody often seems to be the guy standing closest to the guy that just scored.
But in the context of being a 22-year-old sophomore being asked to function as a first-line centre, he is doing very well.
This is a guy who wants to be great and will do what it takes to get there.

Because we need somebody on the second powerplay line instead of Ennis or Foligno.


Seriously though, Ennis' puck control is better than Hodgson's (and giveaway stats reflect this), and that's something you want with your best guys in a puck control situation like a powerplay.

I think i'd take better faceoffs and chemistry over puck control personally. But an argument could be made either way

I'd agree with this.

Hodgson is 43% on FO, and Ennis 40%, so there isn't a huge difference there. Maybe put Ott back on the top PP?

I recognize the value of this; 43.3% vs 40.4% isn't exactly the hard sell.

Neither has scored on the powerplay; Ennis has three powerplay assists to Hodgon's zero.  Seeing as we've only scored seven powerplay goals, that might imply that he's been handy in creating the few opportunities we've been able to capitalize on.  Vanek's scored four of those goals, the last two of Vanek's were on assists from Ennis.  Either way, the PP isn't exactly sterling right now.

I'm far from crapping on either of them- I like the way the game they bring in the offensive zone, and I'm excited to watch them both develop.

Sorry, the case isn't nearly closed and won't be for a long time.  Everything could look totally different again in another 10 games.  Plus, let's see what Hodgson's numbers look like when Vanek cools down.

Either way... the line is good... one of the best lines the Sabres have had in awhile.  If we had been lucky enough to have Ennis-Stafford-Foligno working together like they did last year the Sabres might be in a better spot..but I'm not going to sidetrack the thread...

Hodgson has been what I hoped for and more.. I can't complain at all.

The Commander is F*****G awesome. His show is guaranteed to be 1,000 times better than anything the Sabres can do this season.

I am more of a Commander Tom guy.

I did the math a couple games ago, Hodgson without Vanek, 63 minutes (about 30 even, 15 pp, 15 pk), Hodgson was a minus 7 with 4 PK goals against.
