The Habs just suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the Bruins last night.  Can the Sabres get out of this ugly funk against one of the Eastern Conference's Leaders?

Sabres GAA of 3.7 is the worst in the NHL.

Kaleta says he's ready to go whenever the team needs him, probably won't play tonight, he doesn't fit the "system."

I don't know all the technical mumbo jumbo, but basically it's turn the puck over in the neutral zone and stick check your way back to our zone, then pray our goalie withstands the 1-2 minute peppering he's about to face.

Also don't hit guys, because you could be called for a penalty, duh.

Canadiens coming off a back to back means they'll be tired but still skate better than Buffalo.

I have never said this before but after reading that Buffalo News article, if you could really call it "news", I can't wait to see them get dismantled again.  I don't know why.  I know nothing will come from it. Maybe just to embarrass the FO as much as possible throughout the league somehow makes me feel better.  I think it's safe to assume that other owners and possibly GMs have some sort of inside joke involving Ruff, DR and TP.

If there is ever an opportunity to get out of this funk it's tonight.  Montreal just played a fairly emotional (for division lead) game last night and we've been sitting at home waiting for them.  Another loss tonight, especailly uninspired, and I'm really going to lose it.

Checking in with an update on my preseason prognostications:

Prognostications:

1, Kaleta will break his hand grabbing a puck out of mid air (so far wrong, hard to be right when he's out with a back problem)
2. Grigs will be sent down at some point in this season. (looks like I will be wrong here.  He skates up and down the ice, does nothing, but stays up)
3. Hechts will bounce around from line to line with no permanent home. (Yahtzee!)
4. The line of Ennis, Stafford and Foligno will not make it through 15 games before being broken up.  (Yahtzee!)
5. Miller will have a GAA around 2.10. (uh not even close)
6. Enroth will get eight games (on course to be correct)
7. Ott will be a fan favorite and will lead the team in PIMS edging out Kaleta (might end year without a fan favorite.  Ott is invisible most nights)
8. Scott will not fight a single Bruin (Wrong:  he fought Thornton)
9. Sabres will stumble out the gate and have a losing record after the first ten. (Yahtzee!) They will get better as the season goes on and will be chasing a 7-8 spot.
10. Sabres will finish with 49 points.  (49 looks mighty steep at the moment)

If they don't show up and play hard tonight, after that most recent no-show vs the Habs, I may have to stop watching the games for a while.

Hhhmmm, forgot to set the DVR, not going to make it home till late tonight.

Meh I am just taking the attitude i just saved myself from another soul sucking hockey game.

I'll just read this game post when I get home later and it'll tell me all I need to know.

Let's Go Sabre-space ! (My usual let's Go Buff-a-lo is now replaced with the venue that I find more entertaining than the games themselves )

My predictions for tonight:
Mike Weber's beard blocks more shots than the rest of the team combined
Lindy Ruff stands behind the bench looking angry and not coaching
Vanek plays bad after his coach told the press he was playing to good
Grigorenko in his limited ice time will score a goal but Ruff will bench him for the 3rd period
Tyler Myers will lead the team in TOI finishing the game with a -3, Leo will be close behind with a -2
Tyler Ennis will continue to play along the wall while Stafford sits in the front of the net worthlessly
John Scott will punch someone during his 2:48 of ice time
During the post game press conference Lindy Ruff will blame some random player
Ryan Miller will give us the WTF wave after letting in a soft goal, the result will be it will screw with his head from that point on
Jhonas Enroth will be blamed if we lose even though he didn't play
Injuries, the lockout, Montreal playing last night so they haven't sat around, or some other bull###t will be used as an excuse at some point tonight
Someone during the broadcast will mention Milan Lucic and Ryan Miller in the same sentence.
Foligno's rage will be unleashed and after taking a penalty for running someone over, Ruff will bench him letting everyone know playing soft is better

We lose and it will be excused away
We win and it will be a "see I told you so"

Bottom line... we as fans of a team that has major issues will lose regardless.

I'll watch the game.  I'll swear at the TV.  I'll be annoyed for about 30 minutes after the game.  Then I will go back to life and prepare for things that really matter.

Hope for the best... I like seeing people succeed.

Well so far we're 30th in goals against and sans Thomas Vanek we would be like 28th in goals for. Of course you can not fail to include Vanek's goals, it would be like saying if that running back didn't have those two 90 yard runs, we did good on run defense in a football game, but it does show that Vanek is carrying this team offensively.

Well, Ruff is here to stay, the trade market is soft and Darcy is saying that this is the team that will have to fight through it. As a season ticket holder, there is no reason to be negative anymore as it's just not worth it. I am bringing home a victory tonight so that's that.

The only way out of this mess is to keep losing. The team just isn't that good. Unfortunately it appears Regier will have to fall on his sword before Pegula wakes up and makes changes that will have a positive effect on this team. I used to lament the fact that I wasn't in the Buffalo area so I could purchase season tickets but its actually a blessing right now. I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on this shite. I'll stick to watching them lose on the t.v. As a glutton for punishment I'll support them emotionally. As always. GO SABRES !

Another one of the blasted hockey games?!

I wish it wasn't a lockout shortened season for the sole reason that it would spread out the schedule along with the accompanying misery. :bag:

(For the record, the last time I was not excited for the game was the Bruin game, which was the best game all year - here's to hoping)

Just for fun the Sabres current 82game season record (if I did my math right  )
6-13-2

This record is brought to by Lindy Ruff, when you want mediocrity for years on end call 1-800-Get-Ruff or you may end up with a championship .

Yeah, I'm getting to a similar point.  My expectations have been suitably lowered, so anything they do positive from here on out is a bonus.  If they do nothing positive, it's "met expectations."

Looking at the old jersey, I wonder if the Sabres have a "big game" (3rd) jersey this year?  I mean, they're not playing any big games, but do they have a third jersey?  Is it the old Pepsi one still?

Tonight's excuses.

Montreal plated last night and were ready to go.
We're a young team that is going to go through some growing pains.

Or is this the game they win to a team not playing at it's best, but the Sabres act like everything is right?

I can't explain it but I'm at an emotionally balanced place when it comes to the Sabres.  I watch, I am entertained, FBOW.  Hopefully it gets better.
