The Sabres will try to snap a three game losing streak when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Toronto enters the game with a 2-3-0 record, having dropped their previous two decisions to the Islanders and Rangers. Prior to Buffalo's losing streak, the Sabres gave Toronto their first loss of the season in the Leafs' home opener at Air Canada Centre. It was a 2-1 game that was largely decided by stellar play from Ryan Miller, who made 34 saves and maintained a shutout until the closing minutes of the contest.

Lindy Ruff and co. are hopeful that Thomas Vanek will be able to go tonight for the Sabres after missing Sunday's contest with what was described as a "muscle injury." Vanek has been dominant so far thus season playing on the top line with Cody Hodgson and captain Jason Pominville, and his absence was sorely missed in their loss to the Washington Capitals.

Meanwhile, the injury bug has already struck in Toronto. Joffrey Lupul, who scored 25 goals and 67 points for the Leafs last season, will miss at least 6 weeks with a broken forearm. Former Sabre Clarke MacArthur is also unlikely to play after slicing a finger against the Rangers.

As of Monday night, no decision has been made on Mikhail Grigorenko, who has used up all five games of his "tryout." Playing another game with the Sabres would mean burning the first year of his entry-level contract with the Sabres. However, although Grigorenko is pointless in his first five games, he has received high praise from Lindy Ruff and hasn't looked out of place in the NHL.

Toronto, on the other hand, is getting a little more production from their rookies in this young season. Forward Nazem Kadri is finally playing like the player the Leafs hoped they were getting when they drafted him 7th overall in 2009. He has 3 goals and 5 points in 5 games, including having scored the team's only goal in the previous meeting with Buffalo.

Puck drops at 7PM EST. First game of the year for me.

Let's go BUFFALO!!

Going to be a good one!  The atmosphere is always great for these games.  Usually half the crowd is pro-T.O. which causes the Chet and Muffy fans to be very vocal.  Being a Tuesday night may slightly limit the amount of leaf fans making the trip but it's usually a loud, fun game.  Obviously anyone with info regarding Vanek's and Grigs availability for tonights game, please post.  Let's Go Buffalo!!

25 gets his first; it will be as unremarkable a goal as 11's 500th. Goals also by 29 and 3 (the latter's goal will come on the PP and will initially be credited to 21). Final:  4-2 good guys with an EN from 57 after a mad scramble around 30.

I have never, ever had such a specific vision for a game's outcome. Which of course means that none of this will come to pass.

After all that has gone wrong the past two days (another two letters of rejection on the job front, and a close friend from college passing away from cancer), I could really use a good blow out win over the leafs to make me feel just slightly better.

I'm almost certain Grigs stays.  He's looked pretty damn good the past couple games.  Hopefully Hodgson's defensive woes change soon.  Let's go Sabres!!

Interesting you say that because I feel the exact opposite. The only teams I actually feel more comfortable playing are the likes of Columbus. This team just does not seem to have much behind it unless Miller has one of his great nights. I don't know if it's the lockout, the boring offense or the lack of atmosphere in the building - this team just isn't doing it for me.....

I'm torn, so I'm making two predictions:
Buffalo loses 3-1 although the game isn't as close as the score. Lone goal from Ott. Vanek winces a lot since he's still hurt and really needs to sit out another game or two. Posters here go apoplectic that the season is lost.

Buffalo wins 4-1 on goals from Vanek, Ott, Kaleta, and Grigs late. Posters here go apoplectic that it's only one win and the season is still lost.

Yeah, I kind of have the same feeling. Back at the beginning of the NFL season when the Bills started to lose, I decided to back the Ravens to win the AFC and go to the Super Bowl.  (Obviously, I always hoped for the Bills to do well, but we all know how that worked out). I'm having the same feeling now about the Sabres.  I will now and always be pulling for them to win every game, but from what we've seen so far, I fear that will not come to be. So, I guess I would hope the Rangers take the Eastern Conference.  They are natural rivals with both the Bruins and the Flyers and I hope they crush both of those teams through the rest of the season and into the playoffs. Plus they have Marty Biron as their backup and he deserves a shot at a Cup.  (Of course, in any Rangers-Sabres matchup, I'd still be on the Sabres end of the ice, natch.)

On the atmosphere I still think it was not good in the first 2 games and there will be many leafs fans tonight, If they are louder than the sabres fans for 60 minutes... Wow that would be embarrassing. So whoever visits the game tonight, please yell, clap and shout as loud as your can.

Maybe Sulzer was one of the guys who didn't practice yesterday because of the muscle strains Lindy alluded to in his Locker Room interview yesterday.

Sulzer has been pretty steady thus far.

@BNHarrington
Regehr injured and out. Short-term lower body. Lindy says Weber and Brennan both in. #sabres

per hamilton: Vanek in for Gerbe, Weber and Brennan in for Sulzer and Regehr. Regehr has short term lower body injury

i understand sitting gerbe (he just hasn't been effective). i like getting weber in for regehr (it might actually be an upgrade in certain areas). but why sit sulzer? the guy's been steady and solid. as someone else has noted, it's leopold who should sit for brennan. but lindy has his favorites.

All the STH that bought up extra seats and thought they could make a profit on the game.

Luckily I'm not one with extra seats.  My bf is starting the "blow Leafs blow" chant early in the first.
