Needs to improve:

PowerPlay
Defensive Breakouts
Secondary Scoring
Passing-play
Faceoffs

And our D-Men need to stop making those along the board passes behind the net in their own zone. 9 out of 10 times they lose the puck after the third pass that went from the one dmen to the other.

Gut check time.  You have to assume the Caps are going to come out hard (although it appears the complacency phase of Ovechkin's career is continuing).  Let's see what this year's team is made of.

I thought the 2nd Carolina game was a pretty good team effort, with the (huge) exception of a lack of offensive finish from lines 2 and 3.  Guys like Stafford (who has shown a nice 2-way game this year IMHO), Ennis, Gerbe, Foligno and Griggy need to bury a few if they want to get ice time and get paid like real NHL scoring forwards.  Same goes for defensemen like Ehrhoff, Myers, Reggie and Leopold.

In the recent past this team would start squeezing the sticks and the scoring drought and losing would continue.

But hope springs eternal.

Why does it always seem that every time a Buffalo team plays a struggling team the struggling team snaps out of their funk in a big way? Sabres or Bills, doesn't seem to matter. We seem to be the cure-all for whatever ails the other team.

Unfortunately, I see more of the same today. 5-2, Caps.

Somethings got to give id love to see weber and brennan into the lineup and maybe take scott out for ellis if vanek is gonna play. I just want to see fresh legs hungry for the puck. Set the tone and show our players that if theyre going to coast thru the game or play sloppy then they will find themselves in the pressbox

All righty than. Back at it. I see a classic Ruff road game playing not to lose coming. Hope for great goaltending push for OT hope to win in a SO.

Problem is that hasn't really worked for them last season.

Watched some western games last night(EDM-CAL, LA-PHX, Ducks-Preds) and they appear to be playing at a different speed and level. Please BFLO can I at least see some consistent effort/persuit on the puck.

Well at least we got hockey back, not sure what lines or team we are going to see today but I hope it's a winning one.

I also have to agree with you after watching some of the other games last night these guys are moving a lot harder to the puck!

Would love to see him get more minutes between 82 and 21 and at a minimum 3rd line minutes with some PP time.  If neither of those are in the plans, put him in the Press Box.  No more wasted games like Friday against the Canes.

Predicting a huge win for the Sabres today because I don't get the NHL Network and I'm pretty sure NHL Gamecenter will say I can't watch it because it's a "national TV" game.  So I'm pretty sure I'll get to see zero percent of this game.

Grigorenko gets his first goal and his first assist and his first fight (!) where he knocks his opponent the F out.

Then Thomas Vanek scores five goals and takes an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the fifth goal for breaking out a can of spray paint and writing "Rob and Tom BFFs 4ever" on the glass.  I will miss this whole thing.

Other things:
- Stafford fights again.
- Miller scores a goal somehow
- The jumbotron falls to the ice again but this time Tyler Myers actually catches it and helps move it back to its original position, revealing that his conditioning isn't a problem and that he does in fact have super strength.  He becomes the defenseman we always wanted.

I'm pretty sure this is what I'll be missing.

The question is where will he play?  With Vanek out, I say put Foligno on that line, shift Ennis to wing and put Grigs as 2nd line center.
