According to a source close to Rick Jeanneret, the Hall of Fame broadcaster will return to MSG for tomorrow’s game against the Washington Capitals.
The source said that Jeanneret has asked that the Sabres not announce the news just yet, but he is already in Washington for the game. The game will start at 3 p.m. as the Sabres look to bounce back after back-to-back regulation losses to the Carolina Hurricanes.
This will be Jeanneret’s first game back after missing the first four due to illness. Paul Hamilton filled for the opener against the Flyers, while Kevin Sylvester filled the position over the last three contests.
Prior to the lockout he planned on calling the full 82-game schedule, but it is unknown if he will handle the full 48-game schedule with all the travel the team will go through. There has been a lot of talk about retirement in recent years, but this is his 42nd year with the team (he began broadcasting on the radio in the 1971-72 season).
