I think the sabres will face those big bad bruins. Hopefully the bruins will still be rusty or else it might be a bad start for the sabres.

The Boston Bruins will host the New York Rangers in both teams' season opener on Jan. 19, according to a Boston Globe report.

Gentlemen, Ladies,

The NHL has little respect for the Sabres judging by the opening night reports. How in the HECK do you say there are rivalry matchups when you take away from us all of our division rivals AND northern rivals? Who are we playing, the New Jersey Devils????? Man, this is a slap in the face if I have seen one.

My guess is that we get stuck with the Devils... :(

Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers
Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens
Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild
Florida Panthers vs. Washington Capitals
Ottawa Senators at Winnipeg Jets
Detroit Red Wings at St. Louis Blues
New York Rangers at Boston Bruins
Columbus Blue Jackets at Nashville Predators

Buffalo is a teeny tiny market and they know we'll all be watching no matter who we play. I'm fine with the Devils to start. Save the rivalry games for later.

In what sense?  Population?  Economy?

I'm confused, because you're right on with the second half of your sentence: our hockey TV ratings are phenomenal (and I'm guessing that won't change post-lockout).

If you were going to look at rivalries inside this division, we're already left on the outside.  Boston-Montreal is huge and dates back just about forever.  Then Toronto-Ottawa has the Canada thing going.  We would be a natural fit with Toronto (obviously) and Ottawa (thanks to past history), but a Toronto-Ottawa matchup would be something Canadian television would really want to have on an opening day.

I went to a wedding years ago that fell on game 7 of the ALCS.  All the TV's at the club had the game on.  The bride was less than happy.

Congrats on the imminent nuptials. :nana:

Buffalo is definitely not a teeny tiny market when it comes to hockey, but they do know we'll all be watching regardless of opponent.

good friend of mine got married same day as May Day game. She was from WNY, he from Boston. she finally got sick of half her reception at the bar instead of in the hall, she had them bring TVs in so at least we could dance, drink and be merry during commercials

Sunday afternoon game vs the Flyers?  Sounds tailor-made for a national TV game.

Listened to Kevin Sylvester on Hockey Hotline today and he was saying to go to the FNC's website to look at dates booked for other events to figure out when the Sabres won't play at home.

I got lucky, got married during the lockout so I wouldn't miss anything, unfortunatly it was the week After the Bills Bye week this year so I did miss one Bills game (also was the week after the hockey league I'm in had a week off due to the arena being booked for a tournament).

It did suck that the last day of the honeymoon was in Arizona, and it would have been the same day the Sabres were in Phoenix to play the Coyotes this year, I would have ahd to debate extending the honeymoon one extra night to catch the game there, or my original plans to get back in time that night to not miss another one of my hockey games

Or Philly shakes off the cobwebs while the Sabres finally get it in gear down 4-0 in the 3rd. Sorry, just trying to be in mid season form myself!

I was too young to remember the last time the league played a half season but comparing to the NBA who last year started off on Christmas, the start of the season was normal. Not much was off, but few weeks into the season, is when games got real sloppy. Lots of turnovers, ect. I expect the same will happen with NHL. Players are so amped up for the start that they'll play well, but they'll regress quickly.

it'll be interesting to see how many B2B games other teams have when the full sked is released. weren't we near the top of B2B games last season? and the season before? which is why we got the 4 we did with the original sked for this season?

There's 3 back to back home games in the new schedule.  I imagine there's a few away also.  So definitely more.  The old schedule had games almost every Tues, Thurs, Sat because Black asked for less back to back and thus eliminating most Friday night games.
