If your joke is actually true, It Makes you wonder if it was because management wanted him to get a deal done, or because he was actually trying to make the deal happen?
Must be something recent. WTF fires their GM now? Could have fired him 8 months ago.

Makes you wonder why the decision was made now? Was it the new ownership? Was it because he was unable to land Luongo? Was it because he wanted to go after Luongo?
He was a bad GM and just a loudmouth who should have been fired, but I prefer to see the Leafs suffer with him then possibly get better

Wow, they would do that now? That ownership is as bad as the Bills situation.
FWIW, I thought he was doing a good job rebuilding that team from the ground up.

their ownership has become even better with Rogers & bell owning them now instead of the teachers

I'm wondering if it's because he DIDN'T want to go after Luongo. His entire tenure he has stated that he despises the long term, front loaded contracts. Must say, he's stuck to his guns in his belief and never signed one during his tenure in T.O. Maybe some of the higher ups wanted Booby Loo but Burke held firm in his belief of not having those types of contracts on his books.

I would say that its more likely if his firing was over dealing for Luongo, its because he didn't go after him enough/didn't want him given the timing of this firing (unless we here next today that Loungo is heading to Florida)

I do find it ironic he finally got his tradeable cap space in the CBA, then gets fired before getting a chance to use it.

I think LPF's explanation is the most likely one.

Edit: I think I stole the Romo Sanchez thing from Taro, but that just makes it more true.

Funny that he finally gets what he wanted (being able to trade away a player and retain part of a contract) and is fired before he can ever use it
Dave nonis is being named GM (not sure if its interim or the job is officially his)

You can call it being a kiss ass or you can call it being prudent, but he men/ women in charge want to feel like you know they are in charge. They are only going to put up with the arrogance or disdain you show them for so long.

So, let me paraphrase if I may, depending how large a role that is and I hope it is not ceremonial, the Leafs very likely could still be the laughing stock that we all love to hate.

it is also expected that they will pay him for that position only until such time as he lands with the league or another club.
finally, mirtle tweeted the "fun" (and baseless) rumor that the (league's) plan is for burke to be the GM of TO's (imminently granted) 2nd franchise.
