Next year.
I'm not sure I want the sabres to use the 1st year of his 3 year contract on a shortened season.
Plus, he's played half a season already. Not sure I want an 18 year old from the Q to get in on a sprint of a season with a 1 week training camp and no preseason games.

Good points but after Ennis and Hodgson, there's no Center worth mentioning on the roster.
Guess well see what develops after the short camp.

RW- Pominville, Stafford, Kaleta
LW- Vanek, Foligno, Leino, Gerbe
Extras- Scott, Ellis
D- Myers, Regehr, Ehrhoff, Leopold, Sekera, Weber, Brennan, Sulzer, Pardy
Better
Edit- Forgot we have Pardy on D as well. Seems a D for forward trade makes sense.

Maybe they bring Hecht back?

Teams short on D that might make sense as trade partners include;
Phi- 8 under contract but Pronger and Lilja are over 35
LAK- 7 with Willie Mitchell over 35 and 1 borderline NHL'er
DET- 6 NHL regulars under contract
Car- 6 under contract including 1 EL player
Nas- 6 under contract
Fla- 6 under contract, 2 over 35
StL- 6 under contract
Lots of teams with 7 d-men under contract. Buffalo has a surplus of D men in a league where most teams appear to have just enough. Seems like there is a market.

1) Ehrhoff
2) Myers
3) Regehr
4) Leopold
5) Sekera
6) Weber
7) Sultzer
Plus you have McNabb, Brennen, and maybe one of the young guys who is playing great.

Not sure when that season ends but this is another possibility, his addition could change things.

Sulzer imo is a starting 6 D-Men. Ehrhoff and Sulzer had a fantastic chemistry towards the end of the last year. Sulzer doesnt have the big name or the big reputation but you could see how Ehrhoff's game went up with him as his linemate as he trusts sulz by 100% and that means he can focus a lot on being an offensive dmen.
I still would trade Sekera to make Room for Brennan. Reggie has had flashes of brilliance in the past 3 years but also had many games where I thought what the ###### is he doing dont pass the puck to him. He has never found consistency and I doubt that he ever will. So Trade Sekera and get something nice in return.
All in all I think we have too many DMen and Leopold although I like him, might be the odd man out.
I dunno maybe
Myers-Regehr
Ehrhoff-Sulzer
Brennan-Leopold/Weber
McNabb

We saw the teams short on d - which of those teams short on D is heavy on something we could use...say a stop gap 3rd line center

I wouldn't want them to gut their future D corp, though. It is a tough call. They shouldn't let Brennan go, but not Sekera, either. Don't Leopold and Regehr leave after this season? Damn, have to wrap my head around this stuff again.

With the short season, when would the trade deadline be?
Also, sizzle is right both Leopold and Regehr are only under contract for this season. So, decisions will need to be made, but I believe the Sabres will wait to see how this shorter season goes.
I also believe that Lindy will have as many vets as possible on the game day rosters for this shortened season. The Sabres will have a pretty good chance to make the playoffs this season.

If we use last seasons top 6 we have; Myers, Ehrhoff, Regehr, Sekera, Leopold, Sulzer. Add to that Pardy, Brennan, Weber. McNabb should stay in the "A" based on this seasons' play and our current depth.

He made so many mistakes and looked so slow and was so often in the wrong position.
As seventh man he is maybe ok, if we can get someone for two other dman.

I want to know who has the same problem, only with forwards. They'd be a perfect dance partner. Watch it be the Loafs

Their season ends mid March. Put they still have playoffs after that.

Good post. I especially agree with the bolded parts.

I could live with that as well, but first of all. Weber is a big big bro of Ott and maybe one of the reason Ott decided to come here. So if you trade Weber that might not go nicely with Ott...
On the other hand I think right now Sekera has the best trade value so thats why I would trade him.

I would be happy to see them move him. Not that I dislike Regehr, rather I think the Sabres should look toward the future rather than trying to win a cup this season. The offense still needs some work, so a cup isn't happening this season.
On Weber, I think Weber is pretty safe, at least this season, because he is one of the reasons for Ott being so happy to come to Buffalo.
