Does a shortened schedule help or hurt the Sabres chances? They had one of the better inter-conference records in the league, at 11-6-1, last season. Would a 40-50 game schedule against only Eastern Conference teams hurt the Sabres?

Help.  Miller's weight will still be up for the playoffs.

They can only play half a season. They'll either won the presidents trophy our finish last place. Depending on which half they replicate.

Don't put it past them to only play half of a half a season. ;)

Making it to the playoffs in the first place is usually a big enough problem for this team.

Problem solved. I propose a 40 game "regular season" to determine the seeding for a 30 team playoffs.

The Eulers have been pushing a 20 team playoff for a few years now.  Though I don't expect it, I could see the league try to get some of this year's revenues back w/ 10 teams per each conference getting to the dance.

In that case, the 40 game schedule helps the Sabres, as I doubt there won't be at least 5 teams in the east that the Sabres are better than.  (Not sure I'd want to go out on a limb and say there definitely are at least 7 teams they'd be better than if we see a deal in the next week or so. ;))
