Papi sounds off, and I mean sounds off, on Bobby Valentine. Good read
https://www.fanragsp...obby-valentine/

Pretty much what we thought went on behind the scenes. Bobby was too smart for the room.

I heard some talk the other day about the popularity of his number and it got me thinking.  Baseball has to be the sport where I'm least aware of players' numbers.  They have never really been a prominent feature of the game when televised.

I think you're right. My guess is, it's a combination of never needing to know the numbers (refs call out the numbers for penalties, players faces are covered in other sports so we identify by the numbers), and the fact that, well, you never see the number on a baseball player. They're facing the camera when they're fielding, they facing the camera when they're hitting....about the only number you ever really see during a baseball game is the pitchers.

Also, baseball doesn't really lend itself to situations where the spectator needs to ID players quickly. If you're paying attention, everybody in the field is in a certain place, batters and base runners go in order. IMO anyway.

I could probably name half the rostered players numbers in the MLB, lol. And I bet I could name every retired number in the AL East. I wish we were at a bar right now so I wouldn't be considered an internet cheater.

Sorry that wouldn't post as a picture.. but I love when athletes have exchanges like this on twitter. The Yankees fans in this thread will double appreciate it.

Hell of a catch by Byron Buxton last inning.. Degree of difficulty a little bit higher than your average F8 there

https://mobile.twitt...4387717/video/1

Also, pink unis can be seen in the video. Twins, Indians, and umpires all sporting pink for Mother's Day. Doesn't bother me any!

I see they're wearing pink, too. I've since learned that it's for Mothers' Day.  At least it's for that and not some pinkwashing nonsense.

A walk off HR in the bottom of the 9th gives the Jays their 5th win in a row.

OK, confession time. Derek Jeter is in my top 5 favorite players ever. Behind O'Neill and Bernie, and somewhere in the mix with Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr.

I am so ###### sick of Jeter week, it's disgusting. Just ###### retire his number already. I've already seen all these plays a thousand times. The magic has been gone for a very long time. I don't need to relive the past. Move on! Holy ######!

'Cuse snuck by Yale 11-10. They're 9-2 in 1 goal games.

Yale was up 8-5 midway though the 3rd.

Malloy only had a 0.481 save percentage heading into this one but made about 15 saves. He was out of his mind.

He needed to be because Williams only win 4 faceoffs all game & Yale got the ball on 1 of those. Yale was 0-fer on the man up.

Yale's Reeves had 4 goals & 2 helpers.

Very entertaining game. Towson is next up.

Bouncyball's scheduling drives me mad.  There is no way that they should be starting the conference finals on one side while the previous round is still underway in the other conference.  How do they ever get things to sync up in that league?

Primarily though really great play at the X & good offensive play being just good enough to overcome so-so long poles & poor goaltending.

Yesterday, Williams couldn't do squat but Malloy was unreal. He made 2 leg saves he had no business making.

Throw on 3 mental errors by Yale - attacking the net w/ 19 seconds left in Q1 rather than waiting another 6-7 resulted in a buzzer beater @ the other end when the shot resulted in a turn over. The goalie putting a pass right to Cuse for an uncontested goal in the 3rd. And Shay not taking a timeout to set a play w/ 1 minute left. Turned it over w/out a shot & Cuse ran out the clock.

If Malloy's play will stay at this level & Williams can get back to form, they'll be extremely tough to beat. If Williams's play stays at this level & Malloy goes back to form, Towson will crush them.

I'm with shrader on his anti-bouncy ball tirades.

http://www.cbc.ca/sp...ttery-1.4118922

The NBA is a bigger joke than the NHL.  How could they allow a 1st seed and a team playing in the ECF win the lottery to draft 1st overall as a result of a trade in 2013 with the last place team?  It just boggles the mind.

If there was ever a reason for a program to get the death penalty, this is it.

Also, jail time for Briles and anyone else who ignored or participated in any of that. I'm guessing most of the video evidence has been scuttled but a savvy enough person could find some traces of data left.

Well, Penn State set the bar pretty high for the death penalty, as far as I'm concerned. Baylor seems determined to try and one up them.

Not wanting to open this door entirely, but absolutely nothing on earth could possibly make me laugh harder than the fact that this is largely based on events taking place on Kenneth Starr's watch. Kids, ask your parents.

Especially when they decide to concede the 1st quarter. Can't go into a 45 minute game down 6-0 & expect to win.

Albany got crushed as well. Bad sports day all around yesterday. :(

Guess Towson is the team to pull for now.
