SABRES PROSPECTS REPORT: Catenacci and Grigorenko are done - is Rochester their next stop?

I'm excited to see what Catenacci can do.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope they bring him up to Rochester for the remainder of their season.  He may be shorter but he still has good weight and skates really well. I think his nasty attitude is a plus as well.  A couple years in Rochester and he may be able to step up in the NHL.

Plus you can't teach speed.  5'10" isn't a death sentence for a player, especially at center.  (He's taller than Ennis, FWIW.)

Hopefully this is a good sign: A comparison of Hodgson's first year in the AHL as a 20 year old to Larsson's.

Hodgson: 17 goals + 13 assists = 30 points in 52 games

Larsson: 16 goals + 25 assisnts = 41 points in 68 games

Not too different, and Larsson is adjusting to life on a new continent.  Hopefully he lives up to the hype.

Good numbers.

First I heard he'd been the captain of a Swedish world junior team (that's Sweden, btw--one of the 4 annual contenders), then I read of his nickname--The Bull, then I read a quote from an unnamed head scout from another organ-eye-zayshun who said something about how the guy "plays older than he is."

I have a good feeling about this Larsson fella.

I'll be the first to admit I have a long history of overrating Sabres prospects.
But when I look at this depth chart and project it 3-5 years down the road, I do like the mix, and the fact we seem to have players that project well into necessary roles.

Grigorenko      Armia           ????
Hodgson         Ennis            Larsson
Girgensons     Tropp            Foligno
Kea                 Catenacci

Myers             Pysyk
McCabe         McNabb
Weber            Gauthier-Leduc

????
Enroth/Hackett

I still think we need to draft an elite goaltending prospect, but most seem confident a dark horse like Makarov will eventually emerge.

But the crucial, hard-to-hit spot is that franchise forward.
McKinnon and Drouin are sitting there for the taking and that's what makes this mad dash for 20th place so hard to take. And this depth chart is why it is so crucial we try to parlay assets like Vanek, Miller and our many picks swinging for a home run.

Your forgot Ehrhoff.  Just slip him in where Myers is and assume we trade Myers for a bag of pucks (just a joke),

Something I really want are two wingers for Hodgson, one with more defensive responsibility plus big and another winger who can shoot really well and be a quality target for Hodgson's passes. My hope would be they would all go to Gary Roberts' summer program so they could bond and get better as a cohesive group.

4/24 Recap: Armia a champion:  http://www.sabrespro...a-champion.html

Glad to see him taste success.  Too late to see Armia in Rochester for the playoffs this season.
