You don't think the NFL knows where their bread is buttered?

Without gambling, cut franchise values in half.

The point being.....someone making $3K a game with an employment outlook of weeks, can be gotten to much easier that regular refs. Who cares about $3K when someone comes to you with a few envelopes with $50K in it to make sure Pitt covers?

Here's my thought on what NFL refs get paid. The NFL is the top league/sport  in the United States. I understand many refs only ref 16 games, but give me a break. These refs should be getting paid more than any other ref in a different sport. You can try to argue less work and what not, but if you do, you should apply the same thoughts to the players in the NFL. The refs in the NFL, highest revenue producing league, deserve to be the highest paid refs in all sports.

Well idk how much of an improvement it'll be,  but thigpen is terrible and young is ridiculously inconsistent.

Nooooooooooooooo.. Why oh why...  Jackson, are u kidding me.....

i don't have a huge problem with tavaris as a number 2. i don't. it's probably where his skills and performance fit in the league, for now. he's performed competently at times in a timing/rhythm offense. he could help win us a game or 2, if/when pressed into service.

what i do have a problem with is (1) the team's failure to identify a #2 as a result of the off-season signings and training camp/preseason games/practices and (2) the timing of bringing in this season's #2.

Only the most blinded Vince Young hopefuls would have predicted any type of QB controversy. For better or worse, Fitz is the undisputed starter and he has been since two games into the 2010 season. Young wasn't going to change that no matter how well he played.

Not that Young played well or anything, but I don't know why anybody would believe Jackson is a better option as the #2.  To me they're equally horrible, and if Fitzpatrick gets hurt the team is screwed (and might be screwed if he doesn't :P ).  I wonder if there was a work ethic or locker room concern with Young which prompted this.

young is the superior talent; it appears that jackson will/should fit the system (?) better.

i agree with you on the work ethic/locker room angle -- that very well could have played a role.

This is valid I think. I've heard from people at the game that on the sidelines there were times the other night when Fitz and Thigpen were looking at photos, etc as a QB group and Young was just sitting alone on the bench choosing not to join them. Of course we are viewing that without context but it is interesting that some were saying he looked withdrawn. This fits what fans and media in both of his prior cities have observed as well.

It's interesting that they couldn't really come up with five.  For most teams (and Deadspin has done this or will do this for just about every team), they have.

I could come up with five.

I've seen much better satire slamming Buffalo,.. by a lot.

When the number 3 reason that the Bills suck is an O lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, the writer didn't try all that hard.

he wasnt that bad...the TD to INT ratio is what makes it look horrible. besides, the whole eagles team was pretty bad last year.

tarvaris jackson? hes not too bad. dont think hes really an upgrade over young, but im sure either one of them could be a decent back-up.

Seeing as we've been talking a lot about uniforms lately, here's one about the Bills':  I must have missed it when they were announced, but why do they have them wearing contrasting golf shirts under their jerseys?   OK, not really - it's just a different color piece of the jersey, itself - but that's all that I can think of when I see them up close.

It has to do with the new Nike Flywire Technology, the way it's worded on the Nike site it sounds as though the color was required.

"The Bills design aesthetic will stay true to years past while updating the color-blocking in the neckline in order to accommodate the Nike Flywire technology to reduce weight and provide a lockdown fit over the pads."

Jersey tech is the dumbest thing yet. I remember when Rbk came out with the Edge jerseys for hockey. They were supposed to be the next big thing except for the part where they sucked. Why can't jerseys just be jerseys? One simple material, put it on over your pads, and done.

It doesn't make sense to me either, especially since the color of the V is the opposite of what it should be for the home and road jerseys. Just passing along the stated reasoning.

Probably more of a case of they're using different materials / stitching and the differing fabric density causes the dyes to reflect light differently.

I at least understand mixing in technology in football jerseys where it is perfectly legal to grab and pull at a jersey.  Other than trying to make stuff lighter weight in hockey, I don't see much purpose.

So it starts in earnest now...  I haven't seen anything in the preseason to lead me to believe that they're better than a 7-9 team.  I woke up from a nightmare the other night..  I dreamt that the Bills signed Tavaris Jackson.  Thank god that was just a bad dream..

Preseason football is meaningless.  It's a sham they charge for it.  I don't share the enthusiasm of some but I'm cautiously optimistic.  Which is akin to most people jumping on rooftops.  Is that a saying or did I just make that up?
