Best
Mexican - Gramma Mora's

Either you have no idea what Mexican food is supposed to taste like or you have only been to one Mexican restaurant in the area because Grama Mora's is absolutely terrible.  Bland, below average food with either no seasoning or improper seasoning, and the ultimate insult---Louisana hot sauce instead of real Mexican hot sauce like Cholula or El Yucateco.  This place is a joke!  My wife and I went there once because we heard lots of people talking about how good it was and I was embarrassed for the restaurant and the people that thought it was so good.

Hands down, the best Mexican restaurant in the area was El Caporal and it wasn't even close for second place.  Unfortunately that closed down due to immigration issues, but many of the workers are at La Tolteca now, which is probably the best Mexican restaurant right now...the parrallada is to die for...food tastes amazing.  El Palenque on Niagara Falls Blvd is pretty good also, and the new Don Pedro's, which took over the building that used to house Cinco de Mayo, which I didn't care for very much at all(but was leaps and bounds ahead of Gramma Mora), has pretty good food as well.  All of these places are "authentic" Mexican restaurants(as authentic as you can get in the US at least) and not imposters like Gramma Mora's.

Either way, I cannot believe the amount of good pub Gramma Mora's gets with their food being so poor in comparison to a lot of the other Mexican restaurants in the area.  You eat at La Tolteca once and you will never go back to Gramma Mora's ever again.

Buffalo has no great Mexican food that I know of, and it also has very few Mexicans.  No coincidence.  I would like to try La Tolteca sometime, but wow, according to Google Maps, it is way the hell out there!

Thanks for the suggestions.  I tried Cinco De Mayo a couple of times, but did not care for it.  I will have to try the new restaurant in that location.

I wonder if it's just a different regional cuisine. The town I live in has a fairly large Mexican population, so there's a couple Mexican groceries and restaurants. So one day I decide I want a burrito. I drive down to "Famoso" and wander in. If there had been a jukebox in the place, the needle would have slid off the record as everyone turned to look at the gringo. Undeterred, I ordered a shredded chicken burrito to go (I'm not one to eat at a restaurant by myself). When I got home, it was somewhat what you described: shredded chicken, lettuce, cheese, and tomato with nearly no spices or seasoning. Food for thought. ;-)

in fairness to those who extol Gramma Mora's: back in the day when the place was on niagara street in riverside and Gramma herself was in the kitchen (and even for a period of time after she passed away), the place was an absolute marvel of authentic, homestyle cooking. it's now run by an italian-american family with some history in the restaurant business -- their food is a slight cut above taco bell; i'd much rather eat at mighty.

That is disappointing to here.  I used to enjoy Gramma Mora's back in the day.
