Not sure if this is the place to start this thread, but I've seen other non-related hockey threads here so.. :P

As the title says really, pretty self explanatory. I myself live in England, so I was wondering if there's any other people on here or if anyone knows of any Sabres fans that are from beyond the shores of the US (and Canada?)?

Anyway, er.. thanks

I currently live in Los Angeles, but I have been a Sabres fan since growing up in the rugged Scandinavian mountains of Norway.

@ LaFontaine that's pretty rad! Are you fully Norwegian or were you born to American parents?

@ sabres13 most of my life! I was born in Canada in Vancouver (no ties to the nucks!) and basically ended up here while I was still young. and they're not my fav NHL team... yet! I like hte Flames and the Jets, but just kinda stumbled upon the Sabres as I've heard the fanbase is good and.. I dunno, sometimes you just fall for some teams lol. and the jerseys played a big part in it for me :P

Of course there is. Peppy22 on this forum is from Germany. A few others i have seen on this forum who are from Austria. Hockey is a international sport, and theres fans all over the world. Especially when a team has a player from a specific country, such as Germany (Hecht and now Ehrhoff), Austria (Vanek), ect, but don't forget Alex Ovechkin growing up in Russia liked the Sabres because of Alex Moginly. I think it's absolutely awesome seeing fans from all over the world support the team.

I remember a few years ago, two Finnish fans made a USA trip, which included like a 3 day stop in Buffalo because they had always liked the Sabres but truly became fans when Teppo and Toni Lydman joined the team, and organized a trip around the Sabres to come here and they saw two games. They also visited Boston and NYC, but their primary reason was to see the Sabres in person. Kinda a once in a lifetime type dream trip for these guys. I remember i read the story on Sabres.com.

That's pretty rad! I know it's an international sport but it's not so popular in countries where Ice isn't really easy accessible, or other sports take priority, such as England. But I understand about following players from your country, but again that only seems to be from countries where they do play decent level hockey, such as Finland and Germany. Is it rare for people to just pick a random team and go with it? But then again, it's not as if there's a lot of players from Britain playing in the NHL, haha!

And yeah, it'd be a dream for me to find a fellow Sabre fan from here and find a late-night hockey pub somewhere and go for a drink!

and do you know of any other people that follow the Sabres, either on here or not?

Nah, always had a soft spot for ice hockey (mainly cos of the mighty duck films) - watched winter olympics in 06 - loved the hockey. Afterwards, started looking on NHL website, picked a few teams i liked (based on logo) then watched them play and liked the Sabres the most. The team which came in second was the pens (maybe i made the wrong decision?) :P

But i have no relatives in America. Seen the Sabres play once, was gonna see them when they came to Europe, but couldn't find anyone to go with so decided it wouldn't be worth the money. When did you move here? Yeah i am young - 21

Haven't been very active writing on this board but I read a lot.

I'm a sabre fan from Sweden. For me it started when I was rather young and was playing videogame NHL 94. I thought the funniest/best team was the sabres and espacially LaFontaine, Mogilny and Hawerchuck. At the same time me and my friends were collecting hockey cards. And I started collecting more of the sabres. And it didn't take long until I was stuck.

I have never had a favorite Swede on the sabres (don't think there have been a lot). So I a'm not a fan that joined because of a player from my country.

My first sabre game ever was last year when I went to Berlin to watch sabres - kings. That was big for me! Would be a dream to go to Buffalo some day to watch a game. Guess it will have to wait until the kids get a little older. =)

lol! Love those movies, the second one wasn't as good though. And yeah, minus points to you for picking them I'm afraid :P Ah well if that chance arises again, hit me up! And erm, well I was born in Vancouver to parents that were mixed American Canadian English and then a bit of other stuff, but I have a big family that are all over Canada/The States so I've always been influenced by American Sports. Moved to Chicago when I was about 3, then came over here when I was 5 or 6, so I've been here most of my life, although I'm only 19 so it's not been a long one, lol.

One of the best hockey games on the market, ever. That's pretty cool how you just picked one and went with it though, and been a loyal fan ever since. And getting the chance to watch them, that's wicked. Did you go to Berlin to specifically watch the game? And yeah haha, I want to make the trip over to watch a Sabres game eventually.

*epic post, I apologise*

Berlin, Germany

I became a sabres fan because I owned NHL95 for the Super Nintendo. Didnt know much about hockey back then and just picked a team and started to "grow with it". In the days when there wasn't internet I usually went to the TV every morning and checked the teletext/videotext to see if the sabres won. When the internet finally arrived in germany I started to listen to the radio feed on nhl.com during the night. Now that I think about it it was pretty weired to sit in the dark in front of a computer late night listening to RJ doing the sabres play by play. Positive side effect: my english improved a little haha. After that I used those crapy streams to watch the games. Over the past 3 years I bought the Season Online Pass in order to see games in a good quality and I am proud to say that I have seen all sabres games live over the past 2 years :D. I went to the game in Berlin against the Kings (front row tickets). Lucky me: I was sitting right behind Mark Weber and Jochen Hecht and was able to take a picture with him. My next step will be a trip to Buffalo in order to see a game at the FN' Center

Make that 3, While technically half Indian half English I've spent my entire life in the UK. Only really got into hockey due to the NHL games in the mid 90's but ended up loving the Sabres because of Hasek.

Anyway, didn't we have a few Germans catch on for a little while on here last year?  I wonder how many stuck around and still read other than Peppy.

Janson and i nearly share the same past on this topic.

Some friends of mine started a Nhl94 league and i decided to join them.

I choosed the Sabres, because i liked the team, the names and the logo.mAt this time i also started to attend thebgames of Adler Mannheim, were a young promising rookie started his carreer: Jochen Hecht

I also visited the game in Berlin last year which was huge and i also dream to travel sometimes to Buffalo to attend a game or two.

I love the team!!

Good thing there weren't decent videogames in the 80s.

"Paul Cyr's NHL '87" just doesn't have that ring to it.

Weird, I wonder why the text was so small in my previous post?

I know that Lord/Laird means absolutely nothing, it's more of a description for an estate owner than a proper title like Baron or Duke, but for those of us into history and/or geneology, it's something fun to goof around about.

haha no. But none of my friends is watching hockey. Watched a game with friends once. They were kinda shocked after that. I played soccer/football for 12 years and used to say "top shelf were mama hides the cookies". No one ever understood what I was talking about and they looked at me in disbelief.
