Arron Asham or someone similar will be signed to fill a bottom-line role
Derek Roy, Patrick Kaleta and TJ Brennan will be traded for Steve Ott and a pick
...and Pegula pulls a Mario Williams-style shocker and signs Parise.
(Yes, I am an optimist and I think Weave is a brilliant man)

Gaustad gets re-signed to Buffalo for a resonable 2yr deal.
Sekera gets traded for 3 ahl players and a 2nd round draft pick.
........Then the biggest shocker Buffalo signs Ryan Sutter for 6 yrs and ridiculous money.
I think Tpegs and Darcy want a few stars on the team and are willing to risk it.

I could see Vanek walking out in return for a younger winger and a pick, but I don't think he'll pull the trigger on that.
Vanek might also end up as part of a trade for Bobby Ryan. Ryan is a right hander playing RW in Anaheim, which seems wrong. He should be on the left wing, and moving Vanek for Ryan is a good option. So just to be ambitious, I'm going to say that Vanek and Weber end up going to the Ducks for Ryan, since the Ducks look kinda light on D and Weber fits their style.
Out:
-Derek Roy
-Thomas Vanek
-Mike Weber
In:
-1st round pick
-4th round pick
-Bobby Ryan

If this happens I may give you all my tickets. By the way, Whitney to Buffalo would fall under the "when hell freezes over." He absolutely detests Buffalo. Then again, he's old and when money is involved, well ask teh Eagles.

That's the most nauseating scenario I've seen presented for this offseason.
That said:
Roy for Ott straight up. I think Regier would push for more, but opts to take a lesser return on Roy rather than keeping him.
Konopka signed to center the 4th line
Mike Knuble signed to a 1 year contract
That's it. I don't expect a big move right now, because at this point I believe they're banking on the past few drafts developing to lead them to the promised land. Sprinkle in some veteran leadership to bridge to the next core of players, and there you have it. As much as I'd like Ryan, I think that's the least likely scenario to add a big-time player. If they add anyone major, I think it's Parise for an ungodly sum of money--I just don't see them flipping 3-4 high end assets for a big trade.

I'm gonna agree with weave, I don't hate the Moen idea either, and as I said in another thread there has to be a way to make Kaleta expendable.
Randy Moss on the other hand, I'm not so sure about that retread. I'm sure his hands are still good, but he's going to have to learn how to skate which is quite the mountain to climb.

My gut is telling me that Grigorenko gets every chance to make it on the big club this season. But I don't think Lindy starts him at center. My feeling is that Grigs gets put on the wing. IMO we have (had) a hole at wing on Vanek's line. Grigorenko fills that hole by displacing Corey tropp. In theory this should be an upgrade. Additionally, as much as I'd like to see a change at the #3 center slot, I don't think it happens. Therefore, Leino-Roy-Pommer stays intact. That pretty much leaves 4th line center ice as the one open position left on the game day roster. I'd like to see that slot filled by Zenon Konopka, but I'm not sure he's a Darcy/Lindy kind of player.
So I am going to take a flyer on a guy that is a Lindy/Darcy kind of player. He's got good size. He's a grizzled vet. Has a good work ethic. Plays a defensively responsible game. Former captain of his team. Probably sign for about $1M. Pretty good PK guy. Pretty good faceoff guy too.
Jeff Halpern. Brings leadership, character, a good defensive game. Has enough skill to be a good temporary up line injury fill in at center. He's what Matt Ellis would have been if Ellis had any talent at all.

Jason Arnott to Buffalo for around 2.25mil for 1-2yrs. He is our 3/4th line center. Good depth guy with veteran leadership who is physicaly large but won't be bone crushing.
Thats all I see happening. If we bring in the other Foligno I hope that at some point (prob not this year) that Leino is traded.

Completely separate trade with different players going out. Combine the two if you wish, or disqualify me if you think it's appropriate. Didn't mean to overstep, apologies...

The team looks for a deal including Roy but the 'right' deal isn't there in the off-season.
The Sabres pick up a 4th line faceoff specialist not nicknamed Goose in either a trade for a minor prospect or more likely as a street FA. (Sorry, been too busy to figure out who might be available. Not that it would matter if I won the tix as I've already got my own and would donate 'em. Not that I even meant to imply that I would win 'em, but you know what I mean.
Lines look something like this to start the year:
Grigorenko - Hodgson - Vanek
Foligno - Ennis - Stafford
Leino - Roy - Pominville
Gerbe - FA C - Kaleta
Regehr - Sekera
Leopold - Myers
Ehrhoff - Sulzer
Spares - McCormick, Weber
McNabb pulled up as soon as there's an injury in the top 6 or Sulzer falters.
Tropp/Adam pulled up to play on Vanek - Hodgson line if/when the chemistry of the top lines don't work out.

Been thinking on this.
Quick question before I post my thoughts ... is it limited to players moving in and out? ...

So basically, you are predicting the same thing I am without actually stating who the new 4th line center is?

Thanks, Tom.
Well in that case you might as well shut down the contest, as here is the winning answer ...
In = new ice at FNC.
Out = all the players when the owners lock them out on, or about, September 15, 2012. I really hope this is not the case, but would not be too surprised.
Now Tom, since it is very unlikely I will be able to use the tickets you have generously given up for the contest please donate them to the Make A Wish Foundation, or some other charity of your choice. Thanks.

OK, all kidding aside.
The Sabres will make only one huge addition this off season.
In the last front loaded contract of the current CBA the Sabres sign Parise to the largest (dollar value) contract in the history of the NHL.
There will be other moves, but that is the one I am going with for the contest.
