Isolated incident or do the floodgates open now?

Floodgates are open only if you are shooting high. :) (on Bobo, that is.)

Darcy read between the lines edition:

DR said:

...trying to decide if we could get that second player or would we have to move up in order to ensure that we can get that player.
We have a clear idea of what players we want to select, it'll just a be gamble on whether or not we have to trade to secure the #2 guy.

DR said:

With anyone we pick today, it's not likely that they're going to make an impact with our team next year....when it comes down to it I think we're going to take the best player.
If we address the need for a center, it'll be with a trade or a UFA signing.

DR said:

It isn't going to benefit us to acquire a player to fill a hole if we create a bigger hole somewhere else.
That tells me we're not willing to move anchor players for a centerman.  Moving Miller, Myers, or even Roy could create larger holes in those positions than would be benefitted by adding one player.  This could mean that a package-type deal is what we prefer, trading several depth players for a stud.

DR said:

The other consideration that comes into play with some of the players we've talked about, that've been asked for, is you have chemistry factors.  You have a couple of players on our team that have good chemistry and play well togehter.  So if we break that up in a trade in the hopes of doing better on the acquisition side, the unknown is if you'd be able to recreate that chemistry with that player or some other player.
At least some trade discussions have gone so far to exchange ideas on who to move from the Sabres, including Sabres that have good chemistry.  Sabres that have notably good chemistry: Foligno-Ennis-Stafford, Ehrhoff-Sulzer.  Regier may be thinking long about breaking up FES, meaning specifically that he may hesitate to trade one of them (ahem, Stafford) without some idea on who would replace them.

DR said:

We're lining up to pick the four players with our picks and that's the greatest likelihood.
Unless something comes out of left field, we're picking.

Either way, I'm excited.

Will not be surprised or disappointed if Buffalo simply picks today. W/ the Sabres depth in defense and picks they make today, they'll have plenty to offer this summer. I will be disappointed if a legitimate change has not been made before the puck is dropped, though.

Before anybody's panties get entirely too wadded up, just remember the Hodgson-Kassian "blockbuster" (I mean, it was the biggest trade of the deadline) came together like an hour before the deadline.  IF there are any pre-draft trades made, I don't expect it until closer to the start of the draft.

That was my thought as well.  I think once the first 2 or 3 picks shape up, there might be even more movement, especially if three are any surprise picks

I want Faksa and Ceci.....doubt either will last to 21, but 1 should be there at 12 I hope.

They both seem like a good balance between what Darcy and Lindy like, yet with some size and hockey smarts.

In a perfect world they turn into Bobby Holik and Scott Niedermayer

Actually a smart move. Push it on down the road for 4 or 5 years, they need time to construct the facility they envisioned next to FNC. It'll give them something to showcase, and let's hope another project or 2 get going down there as well.

Does the NHL go out of its way to have things like the draft and all star games in the shittiest cities it can think of?

I think I'm going to be very disappointed today.  The Sabres seem to be content to stay where they are in the draft.  That will NOT get them Faksa - someone they could use badly.  If they draft another Dman (other than Dumba) I'll be pissed (Murray will be gone).  The last time they ticked me off was getting Kassian instead of Kulikov, but that turned out very well since we parlayed him into Hodgson.

I know that Devine is allergic to Russians, but Galchenyuk is an American.  I'd give the Islanders the 12th pick, plus Adam or Roy to get their pick and take Galchenyuk.  He can be a nr. 1 center.

Let's face it - we're not going to get a nr. 1 center in a trade.  Staal shouldn't come here.  He doesn't want to stay in Pittsburgh but wants to play with his brother - which is understandable.  So we have to groom our own.  Galchenyuk or Faksa can be that guy.

The Edmonton #Oilers are going to take (D) Ryan Murray with their #1 Pick at the #NHLDraft tonight. Do you think its smart move? @NHL#FF

I would trust it. Edmonton needs young D badly and Columbus wanted yakupov so they can justify getting rid of Nash before the season starts.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Where would Yakupov fit in with Eberle, RNG, and Hall? They need a big time D Man, it makes total sense.

So if buffalo does make a trade what time do you think it will happen?

My guess is 7:05 or right after the first pick.

If Murray does go number one overall, (and this is strictly hypothetical) would the Jackets accept a trade of our 4 top picks for their number 2 overall?

(Strictly hypothetical) it would take all 4 picks and a core player to get that 2nd draft pick.

It really isn't worth it then. Why does everyone want Yakupov? He is a finesse player, i thought we needed bigger, tougher, stronger guys?

Watch Staal get dealt to Edmonton for the Number one... Yakupov on the wing of Sid or Malkin would be crazy.

That's a shame, seeing as he has no NTC and thus no leverage.  They'll trade him for the best deal.
