Just kind of shaking my head at the lukewarm comments for this movie. I saw it last night for the first time and loved it. Right up there with "Miracle" as the best hockey movie I've seen.

Ghost, no innuendo? It rang true for me many times. You're telling me Laflamme isn't Tim Connolly? The coach of the Highlanders isn't Torts? The knowing look between coaches wasn't Ruff and Murray? The goalie naming his posts Siegried and ROY wasn't Marty? Laflamme stepping on the logo wasn't Jerry Sullivan? The kooky announcer wasn't part Jeanneret?

No innuendo? This movie perfectly captured the latent gayness of hockey, and smartly put a gay brother into the cast. They even nailed the slightly retarded linesman look. The look of delight on the face of the little girl in the crowd during the fight turning to nausea was a brilliant moment where the filmmaker turned the lens around and made us think about our role as fans in enabling this stuff.

This movie was gut-busting funny, true to the game in so many ways (while being an over the top parody of course) and a brilliant homage to Slapshot -- and it had a huge heart. That's pretty rare in sports movies.

Yes,.. all of it.

And for the record, Mystery Alaska is a completely underrated movie.

I really enjoyed it. The wife, not so much but she doesn't like violence. She enjoyed the underlying romance and the humour. So there was something for everybody imo. The problem with hockey movies is they're all held up to slapshot. They should be judged on their own merits. I liked Mystery Alaska too.

Maybe I would have liked it more if I waited to see it like I do almost everything else, but it was one of my 3 yearly PPV purchases. I watched the last 30 minutes or so the other day. It isn't bad, it isn't great. I am conflicted with the attempt to softcore copycat something like Slapshot while at the same time, pussifying the plot for the current nuetered moviegoing masses.

I guess I wanted Tarantino and I got Kevin Smith.

I could have done without his idiot friend. But then again, that kid wrote the movie so apparently he felt the need to give himself that horrendous role.

I knew I recognized the voice of the play by play guy, who just about steals the show. Of course I did! It's Curt Keilback, longtime voice of the Jets and Coyotes, who did two Sabres games in 2009 when Rick took some time off.

I watched it again last night.  It's a good movie.

I thought he was funny. I was actually a little disappointed when his screen time diminished as the movie progressed.
