Are/were you a Marching Virginian?

:) Nope, only a Tech student for my Masters.  If I had gone to a big Division I school for undergrad, I most certainly would've done marching band though.

On a related note, they played Enter Sandman when they introduced the players at the Ralph this afternoon, and I had to do a WTF wave.  For how long have they been doing that?  Perhaps a subject for another thread...

Merry Christmas to everyone! enjoy the holiday season with family and friends, and remember to be appreciative of all that you may have, even if a winning hockey team in buffalo is not one of them...

Happy Holidays!

And no, that's not meant to be politically correct, but instead, to offer the best wishes for any religious or secular holiday (including New Year's Eve) observed by my Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu friends...

Being a Muslim I do not celebrate Christmas in the same way as my Christian friends, but I (and most reasonable Muslims,as well as my many Jewish friends) do not have an issue with wishing someone a Merry Christmas if that is what they celebrate.  Muslims revere Jesus as a prophet and the Messiah, who will return to Earth on Judgement Day.  We just do not accept the basic Christian belief that he is God.

I'm starting to see Leopold as a cool character behind the scenes. Some of his quotes and actions the past few weeks are pretty goodhearted.

Check out the Lindy Ruff youth practice right after the book reading. Lindy's pretty funny with them. Watch the goalie drop a load at the end of the video when Ruff takes a slapper from 15 feet out. I like relaxed Lindy.

Well, November 26th was the first day of the Islamic new year ... so, Happy New Year will do, but we do not celebrate it the same way as is customary on January 1st.

The two most important days on the Islamic calendar are Eid.  One being at the end of Ramadan (the fasting month) which is four days long ... this year it started on August 30th.  The more important Eid is approximately 70 days after the end of Ramadan and comemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son at God's command (God saw this willingness and in the end allowed Abraham not to sacrafice his son).  This year this Eid fell on november 6th (whiile we were in Sarajevo ... huge celebration and prayers).

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar so all the months and celebration days move 11 days earlier each year.

I realize that this is way more information than you asked for.

Another thing to keep in mind should you ever encounter more Mulsims and sit down to talk with them ...

Islam is a faith, Muslims are people.  You may hear many things (also in the media) ... just keep in mind that Muslims will interpret Islam in many different ways and these views are often influenced by culture and tradition.  IMHO, many "Muslim" are not practicing true Islam.

good point. I will keep that in mind.  Kinda of like Christians are people but there are many variations of the Christian faith...

Sort of, but all the many Christians I know do not distort the basics of the faith to satisfy their own agenda.

Many Muslims do that (deliberately manipulate and misinterpret the faith to serve their own purpose) with Islam, IMHO,

T'was four days before Christmas, and all through hockeyville
Not a skater was stirring, not Captain Pominville
Bettman and Fehr were hung from a tree with care
In hopes that hockey games soon would be there.

The Sabres fans nestled all snug in their beds
While memories of games past danced in their heads.
And Connolly in her kerchief and Roy in his cap
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the ice there arose such a clatter,
RJ sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
Away to his microphone he moved with a flash;
He looked down at the ice and saw a hockey clash!

With sweaters and breezers in blue and old gold,
RJ knew it must be his Sabres from Buffalo.
More rapid than eagles these skaters came
And RJ whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Vanek scoooooorres!  Miller Saves!  Ennis with the shaaaaught!
Kaleta in the corner, and Myers just set up Ott!"
And no sooner had I handed a present to the last elf,
I heard RJ scream "It's CoHo!  Top shelf!"

Sadly, of course, due to Bettman and Fehr,
This is all fantasy; there's no hockey this year.
But still, even in the midst of our hockey blight,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good hockey fight!

Goal horns silent,
if you're listening.
But in Buffalo,
snow is glistening.
Kaleta's a punk,
Connolly's probably drunk,
Walking in a Sabrespace wonderland.

Gone away...was PA.
But now, he's here to stay.
He sings a fire Ruff song
as we walk along
Walking in a Sabrespace wonderland.

In the meadow, chz is flirtin' players.
In Montreal, quicksand's smokin' pot.
She'll say can you be a center?
He'll say absolutely not.

Later on, you'll all conspire.
To get our coach Lindy Ruff fired.
But Drane is drunk, and weave is in a funk,
Walkin' in a Sabrespace wonderland.

In the meadow, shrader's getting married.
And Swamp is livin' it up but liger's buried.
Ink is thinking that his calves will save him,
But Santa is too smart to not name him!

D4rk is happy, he's got Jojo.
But in the end, the Sabs have no mojo.
The league is sunk,
Liger's in Georiga and is drunk (worse than Drane!)
Walkin' in a Sabrespace wonderland.

In the cottage, Eleven's optimistic.
Thinks that Lindy is the man.
But here comes DeLuca with statistics,
Proving that Eleven's just a fan.

But when they play,
aint' it thrilling?
And when they win?
They are killin!
We'll root for them again,
and again and again,
walkin' in a Sabrespace Wonderland.

No offense to anyone left out, or, for that matter, to anyone left in.
