I am feeling the need for intelligent Bills discussion. Let's start things out with a doozie. Anyone feel like Merriman's comeback was too good to be true? Apparently, it was. Merriman busted with steroids.

How reliable is that story? That really sucks because I was really excited about that.

I am excited for how Marcell looks!

I'm hoping for an 8-8 season for the Bills this year but I guess we'll see. I'm pissed they traded Evans for a 4th round pick but I'm glad they finally cut Maybin. The other thing I can't seem to wrap my head around is how Rinehart is now sharing snaps at 1st string left guard with Levitre, who I think has been a decent guard for us. Personally I'd rather see the left side left alone and allow Hangartner and Rinehart to compete with Urbik at the right guard position. Then we just have to hope a solid player emerges and pray to the football gods that Pears is as good as OBD seems to think he is after they failed to address RT other than failing to steal Clabo. I'd also like to see Coleman, Batten, and Moats (who needs to move back to OLB) give Kelsay some competition so he can finally ride the bench with his lunch box.

Well, at least he didn't hit someone with his car, or shoot someone, or get caught with a loaded gun, or....

Well, he might be able to hit Moran's kid with his car in a couple days. The evolution of this rumor today has been hilarious to watch.

I cancelled Sunday ticket for the first time in 14 years. That should tell you what I think their season is going to be like. I look at the schedule and just don't see how they'll win more than six games. My guess is they'll continue to lose this year, just not by as much. They'll win just enough to miss out again on a real QB and we'll be talking next year how Tyler Thigpen is going to be the man to rock the Ralph.

I would have bet a VERY large sum of money that Merriman was juicing agin, at least in the offseason since they weren't subject to testing. It's sad, but not expected. I think the Bills are going to suck big time. It hurts, because I really don't care anymore.

I hope they bottom out and draft Luck first overall. I really don't see much changing under current ownership. There is commitment to winning. The purpose for the existence of the Buffalo Bills is not to win a Superbowl.

Quite honestly, I don't care whether or not Merriman is juicing. I'm still working under the assumption that they all are. There's been so much ranting and raving about this stuff in recent years, I've become completely immune to it.

Merriman has denied the steroid allegations via twitter, saying it was a "routine stop at the border" and that he is disappointed about the rumors. (TheSportsBuff Blog Entry)

I feel the same way about the MLB HOF snubbing too. They all were juicing, why single anyone out.

If the Merriman rumor turns out to be true I'll have a good belly laugh. Seems like that is just about how the Bills luck runs. Add the Merriman story to the story of The Dog Whisperer being directed to Philly by The Commish and you've got some serious laugh-at-the-Bills material.

Full disclosure- I emotionally divorced myself from the Bills about 3 quarterbacks ago. It was an amicable split. We both walked away with what we came into the relationship with and neither one of us was interested in support, and there was no community property. I don't wish them any ill, but I can't help but chuckle a little when I see more of the train wreck. Unfortunately it affects the rest of family so I really wish they'd get their act together.

I have had it for 9 years and I just called the other day with the intention of canceling not only the ticket but my entire Direct TV service. They ended up giving me the ticket for free plus other discounts that added up to over $500 in savings for the year. So now I'm on the hook for another fall of miserable Sunday afternoons, but at least it's free.

+1. I am still a Bills fan but distance helps. I emotionally divorced 2 players jersey's ago, Takeo spikes than Losman, not buying another. I remember the season they benched losman I went to my annual tailgate with Holcombs number taped over losmans and his name taped out. Last Jersey i will buy until a new owner changes the culture.

Strange how living in Steeler nation now for 19 years effects your view of football. After seeing a team that has solid ownership with a plan that starts with coaching and defense. I think they may have the best starting group of linebackers in football in a 3-4 this year.

Last not to spoil the rant but it appears the steriods story is bust according to the Buff news this morning unless of course you want to continue the conspiracy to include the commish throwing the bills a bone to placate the dog wisperer story.

Its sad that so many of us care so little about the bills any more. I want to care, I just can't afford the mental energy it costs and the inevitable letdown when they screw it up again. I think Fitz is going to be fitz again, and that won't be good. We are an injury or two away from being a bottom 5 defense again, and our offensive line is still a mess. We are three weeks away from the season opener and we still don't know who our starting line will be. The disfunction is unbelievable and unacceptable. They are barely a professional team, and yet they are several steps ahead of where they were when Jauron left.

Ralph's meddling in the front office and refusal to hire (or keep) anyone who knows what they are doing have hamstrung this franchise for all but two brief periods of competence over the last 50 years.

And here I was thinking I was the only one. I spent most of the night last night watching an A+ organ-i-zation. The Steelers are a model franchise. Great QB, Great coaching from top down and an excellent FO committed to winning. Why Oh Why did I grow up on the side of town that got the Buffalo TV feed. I have distanced myself these last 10 years however I still watch the games via Sunday ticket. Its just that each loss hurts less. That's the sad part.

Sums it up fairly well as far as I see. Right now the only thing the Bills ownership seems to be committed to is just enough change to keep fan interest at a profitable level.

I'd like to get excited about the long term after Ralph moves on but I can't get my head past the idea that this location is doomed to losing the Bills because of that ancient stadium that the community won't (and rightly so) pay to replace when the time comes. And that is a big chunk of my separation, 1 part chronic team suckage, and 1 part expectations that the team being here is only temporary.

does anyon frequent the stadium wall?? I lurk a lot but whenever I post as I did yesterday that place gets out of hand...racism and peronal attacks its kind of rediculous. Also there is no discussion its kind of strange and a lot of posters just try to end threads even if there is good talk going on. Why would you join a message board to simply post "why are you still talking about this" I looked up one of the posters and that was the majority of his activity. I dont get it? I thought most of the members would be the same but that is sadly untrue.

I'm right about where you are. It's almost like it's my duty to watch on Sundays and endure the eventual kick to the nuts each and every week. This year I truly called with the intention to cancel, not fake cancel like in previous years to get a better price. When they offered it for free I figured what the hell since I usually have the Bills game turned off by halftime anyway and I just watch an actual competitive game or the red zone channel.

I've been on TSW wall for a long time, but I'm kind of a hit and miss poster like I am on here. I know many long time respected posters over there have left in recent years due to some of the childish behavior that goes on. It's unfortunate, but there is still some great info to be gathered over there if you have the patience to wade through some of the nonsense.

As long as Merriman's league drug tests come up clean - I'm OK with it. :) The Bills need all the help they can get.

Luckily it's always been Sabres #1, Bills #2 for me.

This will be my 3rd season without Sunday ticket and it's the best $1300 or so I've never spent (or something like that). It became clear to me when they brought Jauron back as coach after he finished the season 2-9 (or whatever it was) that they simply weren't trying to be a good franchise. The hiring of Nix (a 75-year-old scout who never held any kind of GM or assistant GM post) and Gailey has cemented that belief.

It's also become clear to me that Ralph is trying to soak as much cash out of this as possible during his autumn years. This is a $100MM-plus business, but he hires the cheapest guys he can find to run it. They have a million holes, but didn't sign any free agents. Their highest paid player only made $3.2MM (there must be a dozen guys on the Cowboys making more than that) and they unload him for a low draft pick. The season tickets (yes, I'm a STH, although I'm not sure why any more), which in past years have been issued in a respectable booklet, were printed on cheapo sheets this year. This doesn't make Ralph a bad person, but I'm not going to kill my Sundays and waste more money watching a team that exists only to produce profits.

I just feel that ownership and management doesn't care about winning, and if they don't care about winning, I can't care about them. There is too much else to do on a Sunday afternoon in the fall.

I am still a Bills fan, somehow. Although, the past couple seasons I have secretly begun rooting for other teams. I made a personal pact a few seasons ago, that I would not spend my money or go to games, until the team showed they were committed to winning.

How do you go from a team that was so dominant in the 90s, to such a dismal display in the last 11 years? Where did the commitment go? When the Sabres have lousy teams, it's usually for only a couple seasons. The Bills are now reaching ridiculous levels.

Remembering all the hype and excitement of the 90s when playoffs were rolling around, RW had to have been making WAAAAY more money than now. Bills fans were spending like crazy So what is the issue?

It's embarrassing when people ask who your football team is, and you find yourself mumbling "the Bills." It's like having a disease that you are ashamed to admit to.

Luckily, I am more of a hockey fan than football, but I find myself watching more of the alternate games on TV instead of the Bills.

OK, I'll bite. How the :censored: did you end up a Bills fan if you aren't from WNY?

Did the Sabres drive you to the Bills, or did the early '90's Bills drive you to the Sabres?

I'm from WNY and cheer for the Bills and wish desperately that I didn't. Too :censored: old to change old habits. Fortunately, my kids are Sabres and Bandits fans. Unfortunately, they also seem to be Bills fans the handful of times I can actually get them to watch a Bills game w/ me.

JIM KELLY Yes he's the one. I grew up in Central California and now live in Oregon. I have always loved hockey, but didn't have too many ice rinks around me so I played roller hockey. Here's a little note for ya, on Aug 10th my wife and I had our first baby. We tried for a year with no luck and then we took a trip to Buffalo (dream trip for me) on Thanksgiving 2010 to watch the sabres/maple leafs and bills/steelers game (damn Stevie). I also took my wife to Niagara Falls for being a good sport, haha. To make a long story short, my wife got pregnant in Buffalo and we have an awesome son! I wanted to name him something from the trip. So, I figured since we flew over the Hudson River from Buffalo to Newark on the way home that would be a great name. His name is Hudson Royce.

So the Bills drove your love for the Sabres. ;)

That's cool. I'm pretty certain that one of my kids was the result of a trip to watch the Sabres play in MLG for the last time. (Unfortunately, they stunk out the joint.)

Speaking of the Falls and Jimbo, a buddy of mine proposed to his wife at the Falls and later that evening we went to Jim's restaurant and at the end of dinner saw Jim & Jill there and he congratulated him on the engagement.

What I truly don't get about Ralph Wilson is why he doesn't just go for broke. He's owned the team since the 60's and hasn't enjoyed a championship since then. He's in the twilight of his life, seemingly has all the money he can need. Wouldn't you just go for broke and see if you couldn't pull off a championship?

I mean what is he saving his money for? He already has the best diaper service money can buy....

At 90+ years of age I doubt Ralph Wilson is actually making any decisions when it comes to the Bills. He is a figure head that gets rolled out in public every once in a while. I firmly believe his family and advisers are making decisions regarding the team.

The Buffalo Bills have become Fredo Corleone. Nothing is going to happen to the Bills while Ralph is alive. Once Ralph passes the Wilson family are going to send the franchise fishing.
